I first saw one of the Divas on Ms. Leo's blog and I thought she looked fairly interesting. When I went to Toys R Us they had all 4 versions on clearance for $10.49. Their faces aren't wowing me, but I wanted one of the outfits for my Moxie Teenz bodies. If the fashion fit I figured I would get one more.
The box opened really easily. In fact, it was already coming apart in the store because the green background had fallen away from the plastic. I don't mind because it gives me a sweet, blemish free background to use. The top plastic lifts off the lower plastic shell and the doll isn't tied down in any way. I was all, "Oh cool, this opens really neatly...." and then that smell hit me. OMG! Eyuck!
Anyway, here are a bunch of photos of her in case anyone else wants to get this smelly doll.
That's a whole lot of lashes
They put the graphic upside down - tsk tsk.
I like the shorts and shoes the most
Her body is hollow. The right arm flops around loosely and the left one extends really far from her body. Her left leg is also much shorter than her right. Her head will only twist around, not up or down.
The shoes turned her feet yellow
The shoes fit Monster and Ever After feet really well.
Bratzillaz was super hard to get them on and even worse to get off.
The clothes do fit my Moxie Teenz. The shoes only fit because I shaved down the feet on this doll. The shoes will not fit a normal Moxie's feet.
The Jacket is really too big, but it was big on the Diva as well. However, the sleeves were full length on the Diva and on the Moxie they became 3/4. The leg warmers look silly with the Diva shoes, but pair them with some Moxie boots, they don't look half bad.
I'm hoping a soak in some baking soda and a little Febreeze will get rid of the odor in the fashions, but that aside, the quality of the clothes isn't all that great. The material is very thin and the sewing looks a bit iffy. I mean, it's fine for its price point and at least the shoes look cute (but they obviously leave a stain, so...). I dunno, overall, I gotta say that I'm not impressed and wont be getting another Tattoo Divas.
Do they stink so much that you put them close to daggers? You know, as a warning: stop with this odour or!
ReplyDeleteI do like those shoes and that lacey skirt looks reidiculously cute, but I am glad I have never seen them. They don't sound like greatess purchase ever :/
Oh, and nice daggers, I kept on looking on them on every pic.
I think I meant "ridiculously". Not sure, tho.
DeleteLOL, Major! I'm just leaving the doll and the clothes in a different room so I don't have to smell them and that room has the daggers. Well, I collect knives and swords too, so they are every where really. But yes, they do stink that much, lol. Actually what is weird is that I keep going into the room to smell the doll to see if she still stinks... and yep, she does.
DeleteI don't think I've ever had a smelly doll before. The outfit does look nice on your Moxie Teen. The bag is cute. It is a shame they messed it up.
ReplyDeleteVanessa, all dolls I've gotten from the Thrift Store have that musty thrift store odor, but I have never ever bought a new doll and had it smell like chemicals and strawberries. I'm guessing she's treated in some way so that you can use marker on her and wipe it off repeatedly.
DeleteHello from Spain: I did not know these dolls. I like clothes and bag. Why smelly? Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteHi, Marta! That smell is one of life's great mysteries I guess. ^__^
DeleteOh, that's terrible that they smell so bad! I do like the jacket and the shoes though :-).
ReplyDeleteNymphae, the shoes are the main reason I picked this version. I thought they looked pretty cool and I like the color.
DeleteLove the pics...great info and comparisons of doll sizes and who can share clothes*.*
ReplyDeleteHi Nykole and thanks!
DeleteYou have a gift in finding weird and funny stuffs! Lol! I wonder if is possible to swap the head onto an articulated body
ReplyDeleteSergio, not that I want to keep this body but I don't want the smelly head on another body either.
DeleteI read about these dolls too on Ms. Leo blog, I was in TRU and forget to check them out so thanks for the review. Will I be purchasing any, no. Even with your great picks I will pass.
ReplyDeleteBrini, I know that Ms. Leo didn't say anything about her doll stinking so maybe I just got a defective one. At first I thought it was the markers that stunk, but separated from the doll they smell just fine. Oh, well.
DeleteOh my Muff, this ppost craked me up....I'm sorry you were so disappointed, but your description of the smell of this doll is so awful I almost want to buy one! LOL
ReplyDeleteActually, Billa, I hope you do buy one! I want to know what the others smell like.
DeleteBoo! smelly products are the worse! even worse when it's on plastic, it takes forever to get off. If you don't mind the smell of vinegar, a little bit added to the solution should help the stench.
ReplyDeleteHmm, Valsays. I used to like cucumbers soaked in vinegar and sprinkled with black pepper and have tried soaking shower heads in the stuff... but I don't know if I want a doll that has a wiff of vinegar on it.
DeleteI have to admit, now I'm curious how bad the smell really is.
ReplyDeletePresto, you have an assortment of dolls. I'm sure one of them could benefit from a smelly outfit if you choose to buy one.
DeleteLol!!! I have never seen them. Thanks for the warning. I will have to look for them to get a whiff of that smell out if curiosity. Lol!
ReplyDeleteGeorgia Girl, all the boxes are falling apart so you can probably lift the top cover off while you are in the store. You cant smell it at all when it's encased between the plastics.
DeleteSmelly plastic is the worst. Sometimes I wonder what's in that stuff... I don't think I'll try to find these, although the shoes looked pretty good anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnderson, the shoes really are cute. I wont be leaving them on any of my dolls for a long period of time though or putting them in the wardrobe I made in case they leave a stain.
DeleteHola, gracias por la informacion, que interesantes comparaciones. Hasta pronto.
ReplyDeleteHola Lindaivette y tĂș eres bienvenido!
DeleteHi Muff! Wow that must be a funk-a-rific doll. I'm not crazy about glass eyes in dolls anyway, but I might have looked at her for the fashions.
ReplyDeleteI love how Clawdeen is checking out the boots she's wearing. Her outfit and Sasha's have a cute anime-theme.
Thanks for the gorgeous photos of the box and the items as well as the photos of the Moxie Teenz body.
Hope the baking soda and the Febreeze de-funks the fashions ;-)
D7ana, this doll could go on a funk-o-vision world tour, because you've got to see AND smell her. If postage wasn't so much I would mail her off to someone so they can get a whiff and then they can mail her to the next person to enjoy.
DeleteYou've said before that you are not a fan of glass eyes but I never asked why... now I'm asking, lol. Why you no likey? Not that I think glass eyes are all that great, but they don't bug me, I guess.
I have no idea what this line is, but I'm so glad you found out. Now I know not to be swayed by the promise of discount shoes for bigger feet, because that kind of stank doesn't go away. You think it does after the baking soda scrub, but then, in the middle of the night...the resurgence that leaves you wandering the house going "Jesus what the hell is that smell?!" until you get to the doll and swear.
ReplyDeleteI have had this happen before. >.>
LOL, Tina! I'm really hoping that there will be no resurgence! *crosses fingers*
DeleteInteresting that your doll smells so bad and yet Ms. Leo didn't mention the smell. I wonder if yours was from a bad batch or something. Have you noticed if the smell is going away or has it stayed the same? I hope your deodorising soak works. The clothes look cute though.
ReplyDeleteCarrickters, I have not treated the fashions in anyway yet. I'm hoping that now that they aren't on the doll the smell will dissipate on its own. It does seem to be lessening and now the clothes smell more strawberry and tire-ish and less farty. The doll still smells the same though. >.<
DeleteHi Muff! I love these dolls, and while I saw online. But for now he has not come to Spain. And I have no idea if they happen ... Your tattoo girl is very pretty, has a beautiful face, and clothing is great. You made a great purchase. Kisses!
ReplyDeleteKarmen, I don't think these dolls are being manufactured any more so they likely wont make it to Spain.
DeleteI´ve never seem these dolls, they´re really interesting and and different and that I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteAna, I can appreciate interesting and different dolls. The more variety the better.
DeleteHi,Thanks for mentioning me! My doll didn't smell! I would have noticed that! I didn't use the tattoos. I thought the purse was "oversized" Like a said in my post, I kept the outfit. Maybe I'll get a sale for the doll.
ReplyDeleteMs. Leo, I saw your response on my phone before I got back to my PC to comment on it so I went back to TRU to see if those other dolls stunk, and to see if maybe I just got a defective one. NOPE! Since the boxes were falling apart, I just lifted the top plastic shell off 2 of them, took a whiff and that same funky smell poured out of those boxes. I'll admit to having an overly sensitive nose to odors, so maybe it's just me.
DeleteYour opening discription of the smell is too funny
ReplyDeleteHey there, Visionary! Glad to see you around these parts. ^__^
