Our Generation and Blythe LPS

Every once in awhile, I'll see something that has nice packaging or I'll get curious about how something is assembled.  Usually I'll just stand in the toy isle messing with it, but I wont buy it.  However, since these next two items were on clearance at Target, I decided they were cheap enough to purchase.  First up:

A Our Generation Book and Miniature Play set at 50% off, final cost was $4.04.  There were three versions.  The other two featured a story about a girl riding horses and the other story was about a girl solving a mystery.  Each came with a different doll (all white) and different accessories pertaining to their story.

This book is told in the first person and has some nice illustrations throughout.  I skimmed the story and it's preteen suitable.  As best as I could figure, the protagonist, Juliet, is in junior high, so roughly 11 years old at the youngest.  So why her doll looks like this I've no idea:

Now I don't collect little kids or babies. I only have the 2 SIS kids because they came in a set with adult dolls.  Correct me if I'm wrong but I always figured that Kelly (?) kids were representative of a 3-4 year old, no?  So why this Our Generation girl looks so much younger than her character is beyond me.  She almost looks like a toddler compared to the SIS girls. Their tops and shoes are interchangeable, but long pants are not.

Here are all the accessories.  Except for making the apple pink, they did a great job on them.  That tiny little water bottle is really what sold me on this set versus the other ones.  It's so freakin' cute.  The star bracelet is intended for a real girl.

I like the kid size scale of everything.  The earbuds on the mp3 player are huge though!  Those would even look big on an adult or big headed doll.  However, I can appreciate the detail they've put in all these items.

Here's a scale shot of each item in a Fashionista hand.  Of course the comb is not intended for a doll to hold but I threw it in anyway.  What's interesting about that comb is that out of all the dolls and play sets I have ever purchased, this is the first one that came with a comb.  All the others had brushes.  I like it.

A comparison shot of that awesome water bottle against "normal" sized beverages.

Next up is the Blythe Littlest Pet Shop at 70% off, final cost was $5.68.  I'm not about to bash any one's love of Blythe's or LPS'.  I'll just say they are not to my tastes.  The packaging and clothing however are super cute!  The way they've designed and folded this boutique into shape is very inspiring to me.

Look how simple yet swanky it is.  This is a very well put together set.  There were no plastic ties.  Everything was held in place with loose thread and paper ties.  The "mirror" behind the Blythe is rather clever as it shows a print of her reflection.

They put a lot of detail in these tiny clothes.  Her head pops off easily to allow you to put the top elastic over her neck.  This is the only outfit that the Our Generation girl cant fit into.

Aww, she looks darling!  The pants are super stretchy so they fit well but the tops don't close fully in the back.  The last outfit has an elastic hoop at the top but I was unable to get it over her head and when I tried to take her head off I heard a big crack!  Luckily it was just the neck seams opening and a drop of super glue will reseam it.

This is the only outfit that the SIS girl can wear.  Her head pops right off so it was easy to put the dress on.  Again though, it doesn't close in the back.  But she is working that outfit and hat!

To conclude, I think both of these are very nice sets even though I wouldn't buy another Blythe LPS.  I did try to find the other two Our Generation sets on Saturday, but they were all gone from 5 different Targets!  Oh well, I'm glad I was able to get this one.

  1. Cute stuff, Muff, for decent prices. These are items that ordinarily I would have ignored. Thanks to your illustrations and descriptions I will now at least examine the next time I see things like this.

    1. DBG, even though I rarely buy, I tend to glance at everything, 'just in case.' My curiosity about things is endless, but it takes a great price to make me bite.

  2. Really nice accessories. Love the Blyte clothes, too. I've always been tempted to buy a mini Blyte because of the clothes. That is interesting that the first doll is toddler size and the story is preteen. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Vanessa, those Blythe LPS sets are very expensive so I wouldn't get them for clothing unless they were on sale. But you know I'm cheap like that.

  3. I was given the Blythe doll from my friend at work. I came in and there she was sitting on my desk. It is the same one you have here. I never really paid attention to them either until I looked at this one up close! It really is the cutest thing! Needless to say I now have four different ones in and around my office lol! One of them was given to me from Dollz4 Moi. It came with the cutest little puppy in a purse and crazy cute black sunglasses! I am hooked on these dolls now! Thanks for sharing this!

    1. Chynadoll, I will say that the Blythes have the best hair I have ever felt. However the eyes on this one make me feel like she's trying to hypnotize me. I had to put her in the spare parts box immediately.

    1. Heather, I don't know what the deal is with Target and the Stardolls. You would think they would move merchandise at the same time but there is really no consistency.

    2. My target have them marked at $4.48. I bought it yesterday. The bad thing is they only had one. They also marked Edward down to $8.96. I snatched up two just to get the suits. The dolls will be sold. I checked another store hoping to find Bella for the same price. I love her wedding dress.

    3. Georgia Girl, only one of my Target's had the 1st version Edward, not the one in the Wedding and were selling for $14. I'm gonna go check if they have them lower priced yet.

  5. Oh they are so cute, your Our Generation girl and the LPS Target exclusive with red hair. I LOVE the latter's sunglasses ... hinged and all.

P.S. I see my fave Clawdeen there checking out the OG necklace and eyeglasses. Like she's thinking, hey maybe, lol. Nah. Just my imagination.

    1. D7ana, I did try out those Blythe glasses on my Monster. They were a perfect fit but they kind of made her look like an insect. That hat fit over her ears as well.

    2. Awww ... they are cute, but I can *imagine* the insect-look you mention. No, that wouldn't work ;-P

But the hat sounds as though it would be cute. (Note: abstaining from requests, pleas, nagging, etc. LOL)

    1. Mustiwait, when I bought my OG there were over 20 at this particular Target. When I went back one week later they were all gone. There's no way they sold them all and then the other stores were empty too. They must have pulled them for new merchandise in my area.

  10. Great purchases!!! the first pack has lots of cute things, but I agree with you in that the dolly doesn't look very preteen... As for the second one, you had a great idea with the clothes, I have to try that if I see one of those packs with a reduced price.

    1. Rossetti, the original cost of the Blythe set was $20, so yeah, I'd try to find it on discount. I think it's way to much otherwise.

  11. Very nice finds Muff. I rarely look at other stuff...well other brands. I think Barbie, Liv, and MH when I go in Target. Now I will check out other brands. Lol! Thanks for sharing. I totally agree with you, that is the cutest water bottle.

  12. I've been checking my Targets for that LPS Blythe set. I'm going to hit another one tonight to see if my luck works. I am waiting for those OG sets to clearance out too. I thought they would work perfectly with my Kellys. The classic Kellys from 95- 2002 clothing will probably work on this doll.

    Thanks for the review :O)

    2. Congrats, Dollz4Moi! Those sets are really nice as well as the clothing. The newer versions they are replacing them with seem more themey than fashiony.

  13. OK! Today your blog pops back into my list of blogs like it has been there all along? I glance at your blog before I leave out and tell myself I will check it out once I get to work. I get to work, No Hey It's Muff blog in the list. WTF! I don't kow what the problem is with blogspot! I get home and here it is again! Ok, enough of my woes!

I have been eyeing Our Generation for a while but the price was a little high! I am glad to see that they are on clearence. I love your comparison! I was wondering about their clothing. I'm sure Kelly sized doll can fit her clothing too! I'm going have to make a trip to target! Great post! Thanks! Now I'll catch with the rest of your posts.

    1. Ms. Leo, the first four people that I ever followed never show up in my reading list (including yours). There must have been a glitch at that time and it just wont fix itself.

When I was visiting my Targets not all of them were doing the clearance at the same time so there maybe some Our Generation girls left somewhere.
