I Need An Intervention Because...

I cant stop going to that thrift store.  Their new location has been open for 10 days (they are closed on Sundays) - and I have gone to it 9 of those 10 days. Granted, I pass by it during my routine comings and goings, but I'm like addicted to it.  I just don't want to miss finding something awesome though! How can I stop when I stumble on cool stuff like this:

Bijou Moxie Teenz. Do you know how long I have been trying to find the black Moxie Teenz body in the stores? FOREVER! And boom, here she is in absolutely perfect condition for $2.95.

I don't know who this guy is and he has a ink stain on his face, but I liked his clothes and I can practice mouth closing on him as well as ink removal.  Totally worth $2.95.

Lovely ladies paired together for $3.95.  I only have one of this face, my former fairy, so I was happy to find more molds of her.

Another Brandy! This performance version has much longer braids than the other one and she too is in excellent condition.  Her battery has run down so I don't know what she is singing. The other doll looks like Summer and her hair is jacked up but I can practice my hair cutting skills - which don't exist, lol.  They were paired for $2.95.

Happy Family grandpa in his original outfit! He has a little loose seam in his sweater and that's it. Everything else is mint. I was all, "Grandpa! What are you doing paired with that young woman?! Where is your wife?" But then...

Found her! She is looking a little worse for wear and has some white splotches on her chest and back that I hope is just paint.  That is not her original outfit but I'm sure I'll find something for her to wear. I don't know what is happening with that lady she is hanging out with.  Kinda looks like they both went on a bender.  Both these sets were $3.95.

Ah, that's better.  She still looks wasted though. For shame, grandma.

That was all the dolls I purchased, but now I'd like to welcome you to the car show. Price of admission? Only $2.95 each:

Bratz Convertible Cruiser. I don't know why they made such long cars for such short dolls.  Chad is the only male doll that will fit and he's super short. Monster High and Bratz bodies will fit (of course), but not Liv or Barbies.

My Scene My Ride Convertible. Frickin' awesome! So roomy even the Moxie Teenz can fit comfortably in it. Even though the doors don't open, there are some nice details in this car; the side mirrors close, there is a flip open navigation screen, levers for the steering column, gas cap opens, magazine holders in the doors and cup holders in the console.

Found another My Scene! A lady came up behind me in line when I was holding both cars and said, "Oh! You got the car I wanted. I was gonna get that car with the fuzzy wheel. Oh, I really wanted that." And then she smiled and stared at me like she thought I was gonna give it to her. I smiled back and shrugged with false sympathy, "It's mine now."  She nodded and looked away.  On the inside I know she was thinking, "This dirty cow took my car." Because I was thinking, "Trick, I will fight you in this store before I give you this car!"  Thankfully we were both ladies about it.

I got this Barbie mobile to practice painting on. I actually don't mind this color. I like hot pink, just not light pink or pastels. I also liked that the hubcaps weren't those obnoxious B's that I've seen them use.  I didn't realize until I got it home that those were high heels in the caps, lol.

So, that's all the dolls and cars that I got. I did temper myself because there were bunches more dolls and cars that I didn't get. I saw plenty of radio and remote controlled Barbie/Bratz cars - even a huge limousine, but I had to draw the line somewhere.

Always being mindful of my space constraints I only got the things that really, really interested me or I was curious about fixing up. Still, I think I'm getting out of control and I need to calm the eff down and stop going over there so much. Like, seriously.

  1. Woah that's a great haul! I had to stay out of my thrift store and flea markets! I just don't have the space for all the stuff I was getting! Just say noooo Muff lol. Excited to see your makeovers on them :-)

  2. wow...I wish our thrift stores around here would sell dolls- the goodwills are a stroke of good luck if you find anything like this! Congrats on the Happy Family grandparents- I've been looking for this set as I have the caucasian grandma, the barbie and Chrissy babysitting set, and the happy family house I got for $10. I love seeing what others find at the thrift stores!
lol...I don't think I would give you an intervention- I'd join you! But you've found some wonderful items- why not resell them on Ebay and make enough to subsidize your habit??lol......

    1. Lisa, it only took a year and a half to find this store so now I feel like it's my secret treasure trove. The Goodwill stores here are the worst. For what they charge you could buy it new at Walmart.

Selling off the excess stuff I find seems to be a good consensus. Once I'm through fiddling with it I may try that.

  3. I do not blame you one bit for going over there all the time. If I had a thrift store that amazing around me, I'd probably have even less restraint. Congrats on everything. Still not over the woman who seemed to think you'd give her the car. If she wanted it so badly, she should have picked it up when she still had the chance. :P

  4. With finds like these at prices like these, no intervention is necessary! Keep going!

(I know... I am no help, but I would be doing the same thing -- driving by and shopping!)

I've been looking for Grandpa for years but refuse to pay the price people are asking online (specifically eBay).

Again, keep going. Buy what you like for yourself and/or other items to sell on eBay or to other collectors. Oh... the possibilities.

    1. Debbie, I had no idea that the Happy Family dolls were so popular (or were so expensive online). In that respect I made out like a bandit.

You sure do have me thinking about the possibilities but I know I have horder tendencies so I'd more than likely keep everything I bought, lol

  5. No, you don't need an intervention. Maybe a bigger place to live with that thrift store so close - but definitely not an intervention.

  10. OMG Muff you got a nice haul. I've been wanting a granpa doll forever!!!!!!! I'm still waiting too cause his asking price is ridiculous. If the store was in my normal stomping path I would go in on a regular too so shop on girl. Just think your not paying Toys R Us prices.

  11. I'm not going to help with this LOL. I love the Grandparents so glad I picked them up when they were readily available. Like DBG said the prices have gone crazy for them specifically Grandpa. Your thrift is awesome..wish I had one like it but then I need to start donating before I buy any more

Quoting DBG again maybe the evilbay or thedollpage.com is best for the leftovers you don't really want or need :O)

  12. Hello from Spain: I envy you! I understand that you buy both at the thrift stores. All are great buys. I need in my collection Grandparents Happy Family. In my country are very, very expensive. I like your car collection. The best prices are so cheap. I need to go and live in your city and visit those stores. Congratulations on your excellent shopping. Keep in touch

Just think, the one time you stop will be the day that they have the good goods. Maybe just pick and choose carefully. I wish I could get just "one" haul like you did.

They accumalted over the years. I regret that I ever gave them away. :/ Oh well' I keep finding Bratz dolls on clearence for great prices, so that doesn't matter. :D I am very content with my doll collection.

    1. Thanks, Tracey! I don't think that Limo I saw was a Bratz because it didn't open up - unless I just wasn't tugging on it right. I had seen pictures of one before and it opened and had a sun roof. This one was just solid all over.

    2. Oh, well either way a doll sized limo is pretty darn cool.

    3. I just thought what if it is the My Scene Goes HollyWood Limo? If it is I would go ahead and nab it if I where you.

  18. Hah, don't you love when ladies do that at thrift stores? It's like... if you were going to get it, why didn't you pick it up? Simple as that. -_-

Awesome finds! My local thrift store had the black convertible, but unfortunately the front mirror was cracked to heck. :(

    1. Hi, Heather! All the cars I got are cracked or in some need of repair. For me the price was worth it because I like to tinker with things. Even if I cant fix them, if I use them in images there's always photoshop, lol.

    1. Hi, Tracey, no I don't. I thrifted the doll and LPS animals soon after I got them. I only kept the set and the few clothes that fit my kid dolls

    2. Oh okay, I was just wondering what you thought about them. I purchased my first one Friday, and she is absolutely adorable! She is dressed in this British punk rocker vibe and I am currently working on building her a house.

  20. Awesome finds! Especially those grandparents. I can be your voice of reason. It will get out of hand. Before you know it you will have a basement that looks like mine. I rarely go into thrift stores for that very reason. There is always something that I just can't pass up. Yes you can sell on dollpages or ebay. I started doing that, but I still have a pile of stuff to sell that is taking up space. The time it takes to take pictures, post it, ship it, etc. takes away from my play time. And what do I do with the money I make? Buy more doll stuff! It's such a vicious cycle. So now I only go to the thrift store on occasion. If I don't see it there, I don't know that I missed out. Now that my mom is on the case (not my doing), I at least get a few good things at times.

    1. Vanessa, that is all sound advice, especially considering I don't even have a basement to put all the overflow. I gotta pace myself or be more choosy.

  25. I'm sorry Muff...I'm going to be of no help. Let me tell you, if you're finding AWESOME stuff like the VERY hard to find for a reasonable price AA Grandparents, in nice shape, three fabulous looking sports cars (2 of which I've never seen) clothing and gorgeous AA Barbies...I just can't advise you to stay out of thrift stores. Instead, I would say...Godspeed, LOL. I am so jealous, in a good way. I have the AA grandma but grandpa is high on my list.

  28. OK, the first rule of thrift store shopping is put it in your cart if there is the slightest chance you might want it! If she left the car, it was not meant for her to have. That old "I was going to get that" might work on some people so I guess it was worth a try! I think you helped educate her and that was your good deed for the day! The cars are great but what a plus to find the happy family folks at the thrift store! Congrats!
