Michael's Grab Bags

Have you guys seen these before?

I have been shopping at Michael's for like a thousand years and have never noticed these. I would not have noticed them tonight if a lady in line hadn't exclaimed to her friend, "Hey! Look at these. They have grab bags." They were double bagged and tied off, but you could still see stuff poking out like foliage or the corners of things. You know how intrigued I am by closed things as attested by these previous posts:

Thrift Store Mystery Box #1
Thrift Store Mystery Box #2
Mystery Box Shenanigans

I just had to get one and here's what was inside:

Album that holds 12x12 prints

Scrapbook paper with many embossed sheets

More scrapbook paper

Prom 2013 frame - uh, yeah.

I don't think I want to camouflage anything, but you never know.

Everybody needs two of the same stamp and
October 31st is my favorite day of the year, so cool!

Again with the multiples, but no complaints here.

Tape, chocolate and a wood ornament frame. Sure, why not.
That chocolate was nasty, ugh. But I ate it anyway, lol.

So, I guess how this works is that they take some junk from the clearance isle, chuck it in a bag and you take it sight unseen for $2 bucks and no take backs. Seems like a good deal to me! I seriously can use or repurpose most, if not all, of this stuff and heck, I already ate that disgusting chocolate.

If I see these again, I will be getting more. This was fun!

  1. That sounds like a lot of fun to me! That chocolate might have been nasty but at least it is the kind that is good for you.lol...I can see you camouflaging a vehicle for some reason. shrugging shoulders. All in all I am sure it was the thrill of it. :-)

  2. Grandmommy, I don't know how good it is for the average person, but that chocolate did a number on my stomach. I detest dark chocolate, but it was sitting there staring at me and since I paid for it, I ate it like a nincompoop.

I don't know what I'll do with the camo paint but it sure is interesting. I'm thinking to myself, "How can all those colors come out of the nozzle and make that pattern?" - but I guess I'll find out one of these days.

  3. I love dark chocolate. Lower percentages of cacao makes it bitter, however.

I wonder if the camo paint has several nozzles. Interesting.

I know you will repurpose or make good use of this smart buy.

    1. Debbie, after your comment I just checked the nozzle and there is only one. Now I'm starting to think that the only color in the can is that on the cap and you have to buy other colors to make the "camo." Hmmm.

I don't even know what cacao is - all I know is my tummy hurts. Never again and lesson learned.

  4. Interesting idea. I'm not surprised you got a sore tummy if you ate all that chocolate in one go. That high a percentage of cacao is supposed to be good for your heart - but you're only supposed to eat one or two small squares a day. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with everything else,.

    1. Carrickters, the package said 4 squares was a serving or at least I think that's what it said but my eyes were bigger than my stomach and I ate the whole anyway. I can't resist almonds even when they are surrounded by disgustingness.

  5. Hi Muff, wow, you have a stamp of your favorite day now LOL! There is good stuff in the bag, like the scrapbook paper, it has a lot of possibilities. Dark chocolate tastes so bitter, I don't like it either. Good finds in the bag however, I'm sure you'll come up with original ideas for their use :-).

    1. LOL, Nymphaea! Now that I have a stamp of my favorite day I guess I'll have to buy an ink pad to stamp it on random stuff.

  6. I have seen these bag in the store, Michael's is on my walk route and I didn't have any money on me, but you know what I will know. I can't what to see what you do with everything!! Unfortunately I would have to chuck the chocolate, me and my son are allergic to nuts.

    1. Brini, my nephew is deathly allergic to nuts and has to carry an epi pen (did I spell that right?) with him. He's the only one in our family like that. The rest of us are nut fiends.

  8. Hello from Spain: in stores in my town are not for sale such bags with surprises. I like paper sheets relief. Keep in touch

    1. Marta, this is my fist time noticing these bags so maybe it's something new. Every once in a while my grocery store will have mystery brown bags, but they were $5 so I was never tempted. Maybe one day I'll get one to see if it is as awesome as this one was.

  9. Congrats on your cool finds, Muff.

I'd check the date on that chocolate. Maybe it was "off" on that account? I LOVE dark chocolate though not so dark that it tastes smoky. I don't recall ever having Godiva 72% - that was probably too bitter for your tastes. I can take Lindt 70%, but the 85% and the 90% are wry-face-inducing i.e., nasty ;-P

Hope your stomach feels better now.

P.S. Maybe that prom photo holder can become a wall? You might be able to cover up the "prom 2013" part.

    1. D7ana, I looked at the date before I ate it. It was still good until November of this year. I was stupid to eat it all, but not wacky enough to not check if it was expired, lol.

That frame has a slick plasticky surface and I really want to use it for the stand in the back of it. We'll see though.

And nope, my stomach is not better at all. If feels as tight as a drum and sore. At least it didn't affect my pooper - fingers crossed.

    2. Hi Muff! D'oh ... I shoulda realized you'd check the date ;-)

I've never tried the Godiva chocolates or chocolates from Michaels; after your experience though, I think I'll avoid both. So far, I have only had pleasant - well except for those times I tried the 85% and the 90% dark chocolates - experiences with dark chocolate. I want to keep that record.

Oh, I do wanna see what you do with that stand.

Hope the chocolate does no further damage.

  10. Awesome! You definitely got a deal. That chocolate bar is $4 at Barnes and noble.

    1. Dang, Minnie! $4! That seems awfully expensive. I buy king size KitKats and they are $1.59 at Publix or $1.24 at Walnart. But I guess KitKats aren't as fancy pants as Godiva - tastes better though.

  11. Wow, I've never seen grab bags there, either! Not bad at all for $2!

  12. Camo spray paint?? I didn't think that existed outside of cartoons! Have you tried it yet?

    1. Anderson, I didn't know it existed before either. I have not tried it yet, but if it's not too cold in the morning I will spritz some on a piece of cardboard and see if multiple colors come out or if just the color on the lid top comes out.

  13. Wow, what a random collection of items! I can't decide if the prom frame of the camo paint takes the prize for most random, they're both wild (in that I wouldn't have know that either one was a thing that existed).

Looks like a great value for $2 though! I'm impressed.

    1. JSarie, that camo paint turned out to be not very interesting after all. The only color inside was the tan that's on the cap. You'd have to buy other colors and make the camo pattern yourself. Seems like a gyp to me. But, it basically only cost me 12 cents, so whatever, lol.

  14. I have never seen these at Michael's before and I have been shopping there for a thousand and three years. Lol! I will be on the lookout because you scored some great items. I am sure you will use the paint very well as you will the other items.

I'm sorry that good Godiva chocolate was bad for your stomach. I wonder if it was perhaps close to the expiration date.

    1. LOL, Georgia Girl at your thousand and three years of shopping! I've now put everyone in my family on watch to keep an eye out for these bags. So far my mom has found 2 more! It wasn't a good as this first one, even with the nasty chocolate, but it was still worth the 2 bucks.

  17. Now that's a great deal! Much better than the mystery boxes at the thrift store. That cacao is a little high, so that would have probably been great for baking, or eating a small piece here and there.

    1. Vanessa, you aint kiddin' and we all know I love a great deal. I used to only go to Michaels when I had a coupon. Now if I pass by one I'll pull in just to see if they have any grab bags.

I wish I had heard of cacao before I ate that stuff. Live and learn.

  18. Another great score! I can always use scrap book paper and that can be 10 bucks easy!

    1. Ms. Leo, their grab bags are totally worth it because no matter what is inside, you are getting a super bargain. It's just too bad they don't package them more often.
