4 Days in a Row at the Thrift Store

Last week I came into a little bit of unexpected cash (legally!) and instead of saving it wisely, I decided I was going to the Thrift Store every single day until I spent it. It didn't take long.

MONDAY

Barbie 3 Story Dream Townhouse $14.95

At 3.5 feet high, this thing is a freakin' beast and I am in awe of it. It's missing a lot, the tv sticks and it's yellowed from the sun, but who cares?! It was 15 dollars! No clue what to do with it, but hey, it's mine.

This stuff was taped to it in a bag and the only things that actually go with the house are the juice and milk and maybe the bowl of fruit.

This was inside it too, but I know it doesn't go with the set and it's missing a keyboard. Still love it though.

Compared to my $4.95 Victorian house, it's much taller, but has less depth. Unlike the Victorian, its elevator works and once I replaced the batteries, so did all the sound components. The timer dings, door bell rings, fire place lights up and crackles, toilet flushes and Barbie "sings" in the shower.

They both are missing their front doors, but once inside the Townhouse, there seems to be about a half or three quarter inch more headroom.

Since I really don't have anyplace I can hide this monster, I'm situating both houses under my breakfast bar as I don't eat here anyway. I taped up some Bulletin Board paper behind them to make it more dioramic instead of looking like I just have crap sitting in the living room for no reason.

TUESDAY

Liv Nutmeg $2.95

The horse is missing its blanket and one hind leg has a crack in it. Other than that, absolutely awesome!

Barbie Cali Girl Chevy with CD Player $7.95

OMG, either a cat or a family of hamsters was living in this thing because it took me forever to clean the fur and glitter out of it. It was killing my sinuses, but it's all clean now. The audio cord/speaker works so I can hook my phone up to it and it will play out of the speaker at the bottom of the car.

WEDNESDAY

It's senior day on Wednesdays and they get everything 50% off. Do not go that day if you are in a rush because the line is looooooong.

As I was in checkout I saw someone had purchased this so I just missed out on it. Oh well, not like I need two Victorians... but I know I would have bought it if I saw it first, lol, just because its balcony is larger than mine. Anyway, here is what I did get:

90210 Brenda $7.95

Even though I was in my mid 20's when 90210 came out, I never missed an episode, so of course I had to get this. I also like Shannen Doherty and never missed Charmed when she was on it either. The doll kinda, sorta, but barely resembles her.

Barbie Jam 'n Glam Tour Bus $9.95

This thing too is a beast and it's dang heavy! It was completely taped up when I saw it so I couldn't open it. I could see the disco ball and light grid through the window and decided to get it just on that alone. It's missing a small speaker set and all the furniture that came with it, but it's cool regardless. I don't have the right audio cord to get it to work properly, but I know that the large speaker's light array will pulse as music is played.

This side of it is a little weird to me, but I've never been on a tour bus, so what do I know? The mirrors light up, but it's not worth 3 C batteries.

I keep my other cars underneath my craft table, but there is no way this behemoth is getting under there.

For now it's sitting on top of my accessories towers. I will probably have it do double duty by storing any music related accessories inside of it.

THURSDAY

Uh... an old Skipper(?), Stacey Dash and a BFC Ink(?)

These were in two different bags but each bag was $3.95. They are face molds I don't have so I snapped them up.

Janay Doll! (In same bag with Stacey Dash)

She's so photogenic! I cant believe it. My first and only Integrity doll and I found her at the Thrift Store. *twirl*

I'm sure rich people aren't trolling the Thrift Store, but if I had an unlimited supply of money, I would go every day!

  2. It's stories like this that make me want to hit every thrift store in the metro area, but the reality is I never find stuff this good when I go thrifting...never (sigh). I'm having a hard time picking a favorite out of this lot, but I guess I'd be most excited about the Janay doll.

    1. Jewell, it took me two years of crappy stores before I finally found this wonderful mecca. My favorites are between the horse and Janay.

  3. What luck! I love it when I can find something good in a thrift store. The last good find I made was a Brandy Doll. Happy Hunting!

  4. I was just wondering if anybody had ever found an Integrity at a thrift store... and YOU DID.

The thrifts around Phoenix are such that I'm lucky to find Neglected Fashion Doll Two-Packs. I've never seen a boxed doll, and all the Barbie houses appear to go to one Goodwill in North Scottsdale. At that one, two men who were obvious eBay sellers and I circled the toy section like sharks one afternoon. They did way better than I did.

    Your haul is fantastic!

    1. LOL, Smaller at circling the toy section like sharks! It does feel like that sometimes when I'm in the toy isle. Some people you can tell are just looking for stuff for a kid. But you can sense when another collector is in the isle and you start jockeying to go through the bags faster.

  5. Wow! I would be twirling too! I like it all! The highest senior discount we have around here is 25%...I am pissed! I have slowed thrifting a bit...wait no I havent...sorry for that lie. I did a couple of yardsales and a few trips to the thrift store in the past couple of months. LOL I forgot. rofl

  6. Hello from Spain: I really envy you. Your purchase are fabulous. I have the first house, dreamTownhouse, and I I paid $ 200 for it. I need go your city although I would buy everything. I ruined. In my country Skkiper doll is much sought by collectors. Your lucky you have it and to buy it cheap. Keep in touch

    1. Wow, Marta, $200?! I looked it up on eBay when I first got it to see what I was missing from it and the prices there were about $50 to $100 for a used one. But if it's brand new and all the stuff is there, I could see it going for a couple of hundred.

  7. Awesome stash. Nutmeg is my favorite. Then the townhouse and the car. I have to admit I was chuckling throughout. I was thinking, her purchases are getting bigger in size. Love that you put up paper under the breakfast bar. Only you would think of such a thing.

    1. Vanessa, I keep saying I don't have room for stuff, but you're right, I keep finding junk that is HUGE and I have to make it fit somehow. Since the Townhouse is already sun damaged I thought about putting it on the patio but I couldn't do it. I just may have to tackle a rehab on this one. I could hide the Victorian behind my diorama table, but there's no hiding the Townhouse.

If I had another room I would totally paper it with that bulletin board paper so I could have multiple backdrops already up. The roll was actually long enough to cover my entire breakfast bar. I did have to cut it in half since it was too tall to fit under it.

  8. You cleaned up, Muff! Welcome to the "I love Janay" club. Isn't she a gorgeous doll? I'd be twirling, too!

I wish my thrift store had as many nice doll offerings as yours, but I guess if you go daily, you can find the best of the best before others who do the same find it.

I received some unexpected money last week, too; spent most of it on a doll and banked the rest.

    1. Debbie, girl, I almost acted a fool in the store when I found that Janay. I know I gasped and probably squealed too. Someone had turned in about 30 black dolls and she and Stacey were among them. They were the only two molds I didn't have already and thankfully they were in the same bag.

  9. Oh Muff the stuff you find at this thrift store!!! That Stacey Dash(Dionne) doll and Nutmeg is awesome!!! When you walk through the thrift store do you act like this? lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK8mJJJvaes

    1. LOL, Jay! I do have a little bit of a swagger when I walk through the Thrift Store. Maybe not quite the flair that Macklemore has, but I do alright.

    1. Thanks, jSarie! I like that the Chevy can play your tunes, but it doesn't need separate batteries to do so. Too bad they didn't do that with the Tour Bus.

  13. Yay, Muff! Thanks for shopping and then sharing these photos of your finds. Almost as good as having gone on a shopping trip myself. Uh huh.

Of your impressive findings, I like the Cali Girl Chevy, the Brenda doll, and the Janay doll the best. I think you've nabbed an Iceland Ball Janay - in her original fashion. Neat! She has lovely coloring and that two-toned hair - pretty. Can't say I was/am a Shannen Doherty fan, but the doll has a fuller face than most Barbies. Difference is nice ;-)

Good to see your Debbie Harry doll showing the Barbie Jam 'n Glam Tour Bus. Carlos is looking sharp behind the wheel of that Barbie Cali Girl Chevy. That's an interesting shade of blue/purple?

I'm glad that you went doll shopping this week. I get to see new stuff without having to make space for it at home. Score, yes!

    1. Ah, D7ana, that's who she is! I kept looking for "Janay in purple dress" and didn't find her so thanks for your sleuthing. She's probably going to be the only unarticulated doll I have that gets to keep her body because I don't have a body her shade at all.

I figured Debbie Harry was the best one to show off a tour bus. Is that that GI Joe's real name, Carlos? I have no clue about the Joes I've found. The car is kind of metallic blue. It looks quite nice in person.

    2. Congrats on all your finds and thanks for sharing them. The medium articulated Kenya is a good complexion match for your Janay. I bought several of those on clearance at Walgreens back in the day. I also got that Cali Girl Chevy on clearance. I must not know the right days to hit the thrift stores here but I get lucky with clearance sales. Love your accessories towers!

    3. Oh, Limbe dolls, thank you sooooo much! I've been pricing the Kenya dolls and so far, looks like Amazon is the better place to get one. I'm going to go to Family Dollar and see if any of them have old stock, if not I'll probably get one on Amazon. Thanks, again!

  14. A Janay doll. Oh my god! She's fabulous! And fierce! Oh, I would love to find such a beauty in a thrift store. I think that you have a lucky hand. Maybe you should go to LasVegas some day, and win a lot of cash ;)

  15. Oh my freaking God!! You really hit it big!! The Dreamhouse is a good find but the Janey was even better!! I can't wait to see you "Muff Style" your purchase up. I would of done the same thing. If I came home with that hall my son would trip out(He thinks I have enough! But Sideshow collectibles show up on a regular basis, lol) I'm tripping out because you had a place for them all!

  16. I REALLY wish that I could go to your thrift store! This stuff is freakin' awesome! Love the dollhouse! Love the horse! Love the car! OMG I need that disco ball alone RIGHT NOW, but I'd love to have that entire tour bus! And I also would have snapped up that Stacey Dash head and Janay. GREAT finds!

    1. LOL, Roxanne, that disco ball totally sold me on the tour bus. I was thinking, "Oh, I'll just rip that disco ball and light array right out of there," but once I got it open, it was kinda cool in there so for now I'm leaving it alone.

  18. Hi Muff,
About your Thursday finds - yes, the doll on the left is a Teen Skipper head mold, which one specifically though, I'm not sure. But thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU and a big hug from the overcast north - I have the doll on the right and have not been able to identify her until reading this post. Mine was a thrift store find as well. And her name is Kaitlin. I haven't been to a thrift store for a few weeks now - we've been checking out antique malls (which is where I found the Mod Alex I posted), but I think I'll have to make a trip soon. Thank you so much again!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. You're welcome, London! Glad I could help you identify her. I just happen to have purchased a clothing set on clearance a few years ago for a BFC doll and it came with a poster of the smaller dolls and I was sure she was pictured. When I looked online though all I could find were the bigger versions.
