Barbie Bath & Bubbles House

It's been raining all week and I was feeling cooped up. What better way to entertain myself than to finally open up and do research on one of my dusty year old thrift store finds. As usual, it's missing all the accessories, but for $3.95 I can't complain.

I'm always appreciative of the technical aspects of the fold & store designs Mattel creates. This one is quite impressive. It's coloring aside, the set feels like a small French studio with its bustling venue outside and compact living inside.

Some images straight from the video:

  1. Hi Mugg!

Very nice! What I like most is the proportion. Mattel items that are too short or works for my 1:12 folks drive me nuts! lol

    1. Hi, Grandmommy! It does have some nice proportions. That tub is the longest I've seen in a Mattel house.

  2. Very nice! I like the folding houses, the early cardboard ones or the modern plastic as much as big dollhouses. Maybe that's also why I enjoy dioramas. When you're done with playing, you just fold them up and go do something else.
Thanks for sharing your pictures and video, Muff :-)

    1. Maricha, a big old doll house is fun if you've got the room, but I think it's great they made these travel versions too.

  3. So fun! I love all of the detail and the odds and ends. It looks like it's in great shape. The efficiency of space of folding toys/playsets always appealed to me.

    1. Erin, except for the broken Barbie marquee sign, it's in great shape. It could use a good dusting and washing though.

  4. I just love your videos!! Very nice and clean. I had never seen this particular fold up house before. I like that it seems to ha e more things included...the bedroom, kitchen, and a toilet (bathroom). Usually they just have bed and bath. Great find and awesome price!

    1. Thanks, Georgia Girl! I have to wonder how popular it was because I had a heck of a time finding out what its name was. I must have looked at hundreds of house images online before I found it. Of course, there are some on eBay for ridiculous prices.

    1. Smaller, it is charming! I don't know why I find it so adorable since you cant even open it, lol, but nonetheless.

  6. Wow, that is a fine foldable house especially at that price. It may be a bit of a fixer upper, but I can't wait to see what it will look like when you work your magic on it! I watch a show called "Tiny House Living" on HGTV (or FYI). Tiny houses are all the rage these days. Everything has multiple purposes and so many things fold away when not in use! I guess Mattel was just ahead of the times with these little foldable homes!

    1. Phyllis, I agree, this is one of the more innovative houses I've come across. I don't know if I'll be fixing it up though. I have a few more houses squirreled away that I want to review before I try tackling anything.

I don't have cable and I miss HGTV so much! The only time I get to watch it now is at the Gym for about 10 minutes when I'm sitting in the massage chair.

  7. I laughed so hard at the child's photo of her yawning. It doesn't make sense!

    1. Oly, that photo scared me when I first saw it. Good thing I cut out the audio or people would have heard me curse.

    Pozdrawiam serdecznie!

    1. Dzięki, Olla! Myślę, że włożyli dużo myśli w projektowaniu przestrzeni.

  10. I'm amazed at how much is packed into that space! The "cafe" outside is a little baffling but maybe this is a super-efficiency apartment in a big city? Gotta say that shot of the doll in the bath tub sold me on the tub. It looks so relaxing!

It looks like this house comes with a crazy cat lady starter kit, with all the cat and kitten stickers on the walls! Then again, I'd take cats and kittens over that scary yawning photo any day. Brr!

    1. Presto, I know in my area that are quite a few buildings that have residential units upstairs and the first floor is outside businesses. I used to work in a building like that and there was no access to those outside businesses unless you walked outside of the building.

LOL, I agree about the cat lady starter kit. I saw all those stickers was like, "Dang, this chick really likes cats."

  11. Hello Muff! It's a nice playset, but it could use a repaint in some areas for more realism. The yawning girl picture is beyond horrible.

    Cheers!

    1. Monster, lots of the bas relief they did could definitely look more real with a little paint. At least they attempted to jazz it up with 2 different colors of pink.

  12. Who designs these thing? A toilet under the sink, all these compact areas and a huge tub. Exactly why so many cats all around? And a crazy picture of some girl above the bed. Thanks for the review. I've never seen this house before.

    1. LOL, Janainah! When I first saw that seat through the missing sink hole I thought it was a vanity chair. I was quite surprised at it being a toilet. Guess the designer thought that was the best idea.

  13. Clever design. Thanks for sharing ... I had not seen this, or if I did, I failed to appreciate its uniqueness. Do you plan on repainting any of it?

(Much as I love cats, I'd be tempted to paint over the cutesy animal decals.)

    1. LOL, D7ana! "Unique," yes, that's the word for it. Nah, I don't think I'll tackle this as a repaint. It's got so many little nooks and crannies. I have a few other sets that I've never opened so I want to look at them all before trying to modify one.

    1. Thanks, Natalia! Yes, I was surprised too it was a toilet and not just a seat.
