Barbie at the Southern Women's Show

One of the things that kept me busy last month was working at the Southern Women's Show.  It's basically a 4 day retail shopping event with some entertainment thrown in. I've attended many times in the past but it was my first time being there as a vendor.  Here was our booth!:

My sister knits and my mother crochets (not that I understand the difference).  I just sit in the corner and cashier so I don't have to talk to anyone, ugh.  At the show I discovered a jewelry vendor using Barbie Collectible Fashion Cards as holders for her earrings.

How neat! It was interesting looking at the old fashions.  She also had these Barbie logo earrings for sale:

I didn't buy anything because even though my ears are pierced, I'm still wearing the same studs from when I originally got my ears done at 12 years old. 0_o

  1. Wow!! Your mum and sister really make wonders! Your booth look colourful, stylish and fun, I love it! And thanks for sharing those pics of the cards as earrings holders, if I had been there I think I would have bought some just for having some of my favourite Barbie's hehehe...

  2. Cool booth, Muff. I would love to see some of the hats close up. I need some knitted or crocheted hats for winter. Finding them large enough to stuff my loose hair underneath is a problem.

The other vendor's use of Barbie cards as earring holders was quite clever.

    1. DBG, my sister has dreads almost to her waist so many of the hats she makes are for people with a lot of hair. Unfortunately, she doesn't sell on line and each hat is one of a kind, but if you're ever in Jacksonville, FL let me know and I'll get you the hook up.

    2. Thanks, Muff. Has your sister considered opening an Etsy store?

    3. DBG, she refuses to sell online. She says it's too much trouble, which translates to neither my mother nor myself will do it for her so she cant be bothered to do it herself.

  3. Great stand! It looks trendy and colourful. Those earings are adorable, and I'm a little glad I wasn't there, because I'm afraid I would buy out the whole stock!

    1. Hiya, Verona. I'm not a fashion maven so I'm going to assume their stuff is trendy, lol.

    1. Thanks, Tali. I'm sure the lady that worked that booth was ticked off I was more interested in the cards than the earrings.

    1. Georgia Girl, my mother and sis make stuff for me to wear, but not for my dolls. My mother tried to teach me to crochet so I could make stuff for my dolls myself and I made a few things but it was hard work and annoying, lol.

    1. Brini, it probably would have been fun if I was a customer instead of a vendor. It was cold as heck in there and since you had to man your little booth you couldn't warm up very well. Still, they made money, so yay!

  8. Hello from Spain: the stand of your family is very nice. I love the merchandise they sell. I'd buy a card with slopes. They are very original. Thanks for posting these photos of the exhibition. We keep in touch.

    1. Hi Marta, thanks for stopping by! They did have a variety of items in that small space.

  9. I'll bet your sister and mother appreciated your help selling their stuff - 4 day markets are really tiring, particularly as you usually put in a huge amount of time getting stock together at the last moment. Your booth looked great and I'm glad to hear they made money. The Barbie cards are new to me but they looked good as backdrops for the earrings although I guess the earring holes devalues the cards.

    1. Carrickters, they also sell at the artist's market every Saturday during the season. They stay pretty busy during the week to stock up for the weekend.

I saw those cards on ebay for about $2 each. I would not be putting holes in them either.

    1. Thanks so much, Pam! ^_^ My sister wanted to sell more than she did, but I think every vendor there had that thought, lol. My mom and sis make stuff for me, but not for my dollies. I made a few things for my dolls myself, but yeah, I gave that up rather quickly.

LOL, yep, I have had these earrings over 30 years. I have other earrings of course, but probably only 10 pairs and I haven't worn any of those in many many years.

  12. I also cannot knit or crochet. Tried years ago. I think the difference is that knitting calls for 2 needles while crochetting is only one. I think that, lol. Don't know it.

I like the orange "furry" scarf in the front left side. Beautiful display, but that would have been my choice had I been there.

    1. Dana, almost a year ago my mom bought me all these little doodads, gave me some yarn bits and a crochet booklet. I made about 6 doll hats the first week and havent done a thing since, lol.

    1. Thanks, Sergio! If I ever run into your sister I'll be sure to go on a break and let my sister take care of her. They can talk to each other until they pass out.
