Speaking of Crocheting

Although my mom and sister do yarn work, they stick to making it for humans.  Moons ago my mother gave me the basic necessities so I could crochet my own doll wear. She tried patiently to teach me and I got the gist, sorta.  The problem lies in my innate dislike of sewing and certainly, crocheting isn't sewing but it's close enough that I don't like it either.

All these months have passed and I only made 6 items ... and I made those in one weekend, lol.  Did I give up too soon? I'm going to say, no I didn't.  I gave it a try.  It was annoying.  The end.

Here's the stuff I made though:

Jordan looks rather spiffy in that Moxie Teenz jacket.

I'm not a fan of Claudia's hat.  It looks like brains from the back.

Sasha's hat is actually a shoulder shrug, but her head's so big it fits.

Clawdeen's Bratz jacket and shirt are my favorite clothing, ever!

Tasha detests this hat but she has the shortest hair so it fit her better.

Carmen looks cute in anything!  She's so adorable.

Everything turned out "okay," but the problem is when I crochet, that's all I can do. I'm a notorious mulitasker.  When I exercise I also read a book and watch a movie at the same time while updating the games on my phone.  When I crochet I have to pay attention to the yarn and hook or I miss a stitch. I cant even watch TV when I do it or I end up unravelling what I've already done.  So, no thanks crochet, I'll leave you to the yarn aficionados.

A group shot as they waited for their turns to be photographed.  Meygana's just hanging around because she lives on the steps full time. Those original Bratz bodies (Carmen) are so short!  I love that everyone is different heights.

    1. Thanks, Isabel. Claudia's hat is one of those "puff" designs that makes it easier for poking ears through.

  3. There's definitely a crafter within you screaming to get out. These hats look great! Clawdeen's is my favorite.

    1. BDG, my family is indeed a crafty bunch but our interests don't always mesh, much to my mothers lament, lol.

  4. Good for you for giving it a try. The hats are darling.

  5. Your hats are great, I would love to learn to crochet but I seriously have some kinda anti-talent for it. I know exactly what you mean about the compulsive need to multitask- the way I deal with sewing is I have something to listen to so I don't get bored, but nothing other than sewing to look at. Audiobooks are great for that if you want to give it a try. :D

    1. Thanks, Alrunia! I have tried audiobooks but I find it hard to listen to one person cold read. I used to listen to old 1940's radio programs all the time and love those because they had multiple actors and sound effects.

    1. Ms. Leo, I spent a lot of time trying to color coordinate the backgrounds to make the hats look better, lol.

Moxie's on sale?! Whut! I'll have to keep a look out.

  8. They look lovely, but I can understand where you are coming from. I don't really like cutting and pasting and those kinds of things, but I love sewing! I don't knit though...

    1. LOL, Verona! We are like polar opposites. I love cutting and pasting and dislike sewing. Making collages was my thing back in the day.

  10. Wow, these look great! I totally can't wrap my head around crocheting, so I'm massively impressed. Seriously, they look mega professional, though I know there's not a ton of satisfaction in being good at something you don't like doing, lol. I'm right there with ya with the multitasking thing, which is one of the reasons sewing bores my brains out. I listen to podcasts while I use the machine, but I always manage to run out before I finish, and then snooooze.

Btw, totally got a giggle when I read "Carmen looks cute in anything! She's so adorable." since that's my name, lol!

    1. Smidge Girl (aka Carmen, lol), crocheting takes a concentration that's too consuming for me. My mother finds it relaxing and she'll make these intricate designs and patterns while enjoying her Hulu programs. I can make a doll hat in about 20 minutes but the whole time I'm like, "OMG it feels like this is taking forever, WTF!"

The next time anyone questions your fashion sense just tell them, "Muff said I look cute in anything and that I'm adorable. So there!"

    1. Hey there, Jewel Snake! I myself prefer to wear hats like Tasha's; a single color with a poof on top.

I couldn't get the poof on #6 to close so it looks quite wonky in person, lol.

  12. Muff, I love these hats girl! I was waiting to see a bad one as I scrolled down and I never did. They are all lovely. I wish I could do more than just a chain link. Lol! You definitely have it, so please don't give up.

I totally get the multi-tasking thing. I am forever doing it because I usually have so much going on. Right now I am watching a movie on Lifetime, on computer responding to your post and texting back and forth with my niece. Lol!

    1. Georgia Girl, a few of the hats are flawed. I'm just sneaky enough to position them in the best way for photographing. There's a reason I didn't do multiple shots of the hats, lol.

Us multitaskers know what's what. Shoot, we've got things to do, lol.

  13. This reminds me of teaching my husband to knit. He could do it but complained that it gave him backache - and yes, I find it relaxing and watch TV or read a book at the same time. I don't crochet quite so much but I do like your doll hats.

    1. Thanks, Carrickters and your comment does make me wonder if your husband stuck with knitting and if he did what he made.

You must be really good if you can read a book at the same time. Every time I took my hand away to reach for the mouse or turn a page I'd lose my place in both the book and the garmet.

  14. Lovely doll hats! They're all adorable but I like the colour combination of Sashabella's hat and scarf the best :)
I wish I could make those things :D
But I think I'm creative in an other way, I just found out that those little spiral springs that you can find in a pen make adorable hair decorations on my MH CAM skeleton :D The art of finding doll stuff in little things, lol xD

  15. It's a pity... your designs were great, I love all of them! But I understand you, I can't crochet for the same reason... too much concentration for me, too much effort for something which is supposed to be relaxing.. At least, that's my view...

  18. Not bad for a first timer like you Muff, especially when we all know the fact that how you detest doing it!! :)

Jordan,Tasha and of course Carmen are my faves here,Tasha looks very trendy,Jordan is classy and Carmen looks cute,in my opinion.Hope someday you have the patience to go thru the entire process of knitting so that we can see your gals sporting beautiful caps and mufflers during winter.I got no talent as far as sewing or knitting is concerned! :(

I am not much into Monster High dolls! :)

    1. Hey, Pam and thanks! I think knitting is way more difficult than crocheting or at least it seems that way to me. One stick is bad enough without fiddling with two.
