I said I would improve my inking efforts by completing at least one face every weekend during the month of February because a month is about as long as my attention span is. I met that goal and even though I'll start working on other things, I'm going to keep at this inking stuff because I'm really enjoying it! Yes, I'm still very shaky but that's a physical issue I cant control or get around. It's frustrating, but I need to accept that my attempts are never going to be as neat and precise as factory paint. However, I wish they were and my stubbornness against being defeated is probably another thing keeping me interested.
The last reink of February, Justin got his face wiped again and redone. I much prefer this new look. His ink before was too wholesome and now he has more of a manga appeal. He's been given visible eyebrows, darker hair and pierced ears! Those SIS earrings are too big but they'll keep his new ear holes open until I find or make something smaller.
Check out that swagger. He looks like he's up to no good. Keep an eye on your daughters, people - and maybe your sons too for all I know.
I tried to reshape his jaw with shadowing so he was more sculpted looking than the original mold and less baby faced. Eh, it turned out okay.
On an unrelated note, I'm loving the brick scrapbook paper that I got from Joann's! It works well as a wall or as cobblestone. I'm using it to create another exterior house for photo backdrops and so far so good! If you can find it on sale like I did, I definitely recommend getting a bunch of it. I bought some of the "grass" scrapbook paper too, but it's not working out so well. Meh.
Dr. Muffenstein's done it again. I think he's a lil' hottie! Love the earrings and subtle hair-lights. He looked cartoonish before, now he looks like a real boy. Great job.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tracy! He's got all the ladies a twitter over here, even the older ladies.
DeleteWOW!He is great! I do not see any shaking lines:)
ReplyDeleteHi, Natalia ^__^. If I had taken some close ups you would see the wiggly lines, lol.
DeleteHey, quite nice is this bad boy. I like very much your styling :)
ReplyDeleteGreeting from Poland ;)
Thank you, Marille. The mix of Ken top and Bieber bottoms is working out for him.
DeleteHe's certainly got a lot more personality and appeal than he did. Keep going Muff.
ReplyDeleteHey there, Carrickters! I will definitely keep at it.
Deletei love his face now more more than before he looks liks a real bad boy.please take care of your dolls he has to be away from them!!especially young boys!"lol"
ReplyDeleteHiya, Jassica Joe! LOL, I'm trying to keep him away from the other dolls, but they keep going to him despite my warnings!
DeleteI love Bieber's bad boy look!
ReplyDeleteYour inking skills are continuing to improve. Don't get discouraged by the hand unsteadiness. The precision of technique will develop with each inking. Keep at it.
Thanks for the scrapbook paper tip. I will look through Big Lots' small selection the next time I am there.

Thanks, DBG! I went to several BigLots today to see what paperstock they had and there was only one packet of photoreal paper. Unfortunately it was half sized and only had about 3 images I would use. It wasn't worth the 3 bucks. If you have a Michaels they are selling their photo stock for .25 each. I think tomorrow is the last day though.
DeleteHe looks like a manhwa character! Great!
ReplyDeleteSergio, he was modeled after a manhwa character so thanks!
Delete*Squeals* He looks, so cool! Much better than how he orignally looked. His face has character now. Good job!
ReplyDeleteLOL, Verona, thank you for the squeals!
DeleteGreat job Muff! Girl, you are really working those markers. Very nice repaint. : ) I love how you styled him.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Georgia Girl! I'm not the best at restyling but he was screaming for some pierced ears and jewelry.
DeleteHello from Spain: I love the transformation that you create nice guy to bad guy. Great paint job. I like the photo on the steps of the front door. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteHi, Marta! I'm going to get as much use out of those steps as I can, lol.
DeleteI daresay your attempts surpass the factory painting. I adore the naughty boy you found in Justin. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, IHime! Justin says, he likes being adored! LOL, that kid.
DeleteLove how he came out! Great job! Looks like he got some swagger lol! Looking forward to the next one!
ReplyDeleteHiya, Chynadoll and thanks a lot! ^__^
DeleteAwesome job! Looks like he's looking to get into a little bit of trouble. Keep it up! Practice makes perfect. You are well on your way.
ReplyDeleteHey, Vanessa! Justin says he's not bad, just misunderstood. Somehow, I don't believe him.
DeleteWOW! love the manga style eyes Muff you are killing it with these reinkings. Glad i got you restarted on this. BTW those ivory ink(dickblick)pens suck they are more of yellow than white. Also i am experimenting with changing the skin tone of the odies with ink pens.
ReplyDelete*skin tone of the bodies*
DeleteJay, I'm glad you got me fired up too. This is one project that might have some staying power with me. Sorry you had to take one for the team with the "ivory" ink. I guess I will stick with the Gelly whites.
DeleteI tried changing skin tones with ink and it worked halfway okay with the vinyl parts, but the hard plastic wouldn't retain the ink very well. The doll looked like it had a farmers tan.
I think thats my purpose in life now to take one for them team! LOL
DeleteHe look like a completly different person, so much better now! Especially those eyes - now he become a self confident, "dangerous" young man :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jewel Snake! He is definitely over confident, lol.
DeleteThis doll is such a cutie! If I had the money I'd buy him. Wait don't I say that about all your JB repaints. Lol You just make him look much better with inking. When he comes straight from the factory he is ugly. You make him look more attractive. My doll Chelsea calls dibbs! Lol she has a thing for bad boys.
ReplyDeleteHiya, Tracey! Your Chelsea doll will just have to stand in line. This guy is a lone wolf and doesn't want to be tied down.
DeleteLol I can tell from the bad boy look on his face that he likes to play the field, but doesn't want to get serious just yet.
DeleteI posted my photo story if you are interested. Here's the link. http://purplecandy1997.blogspot.com/2013/03/dolliehouse-ep3-campus-cafe.html
He looks so much better!! I think you did a good job taking the "baby face" away and giving him a more teenage look. I'm going to try and go to Joanne next week and will make sure to add that to my list.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brini! I just got an email that Joanns is having a coupon blow out. You get 4 50% off coupon to use through Saturday. Now I just have to think about what I want to get.
DeleteI prefer this bad guy look so much!! Great job with the repaint, it's fab! Thanks to you I have started my first repaint... on a ken!! It's just the eyebrows, a touch in the eyes and mouth and the result is far from perfect, I have to improve a lot but at least I dared to do it!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Rossetti and I'm very happy to hear that you are experimenting with your first repaint. I was so discouraged after I first tried it that I gave up for an entire year. I'm kind of dramatic that way, lol. I'm very happy I made the re-attempt and hope you'll feel the same as you progress.
DeleteUgh, I was so busy with school all week that I couldn't even check my fave doll blogs!
ReplyDeleteNow I have to catch up on everything, and it's a lot! At least it's about a subject I really like..
Anyway, I think this is one of your best repaints so far, Muff! You made him look very realistic, I especially love the shape of his eyes. Great job!
Thanks, Tali. He was the quickest inking I've done and I was surprised he came out so well.
Deletemaybe make him some ear gauges
ReplyDeleteNerdy, he has some nice flat studs in his ears now.
