Ever After High's Cerise Hood

I am not really a fan of the previously released Ever After ladies (those clothes, those heads; meh). However, once the price goes down, way down, I intended to get the 2 pack that has the male huntsman in it because I thought he was interesting and I would have used the lady for her articulated body. Then I saw Cerise at Walmart.

She is not actually posed like this in the original packaging. I had deboxed her before taking a photo so I stuck her back in. And yes, I actually paid the full price of $19.97 for this doll. Shocking, I know, but I just found her outfit rather cool and I wanted it, and I wanted it now. It's got this urban, tartan, goth feel and I dig it.

Detail

Her story is another thing that intrigued me, but it also misled me. Based on this story I thought she was hiding wolf ears under her hood. She is, but they are the mildest wolf ears ever. They just have a slight point. Not even a Vulcan point at that. I'm not loving her face, even though it's nice and melancholy, but, if she would have had actual wolf ears, ala Clawdeen, then I might have found her head more appealing.

Love the insert artwork

The story inside of her Bookmark

Her accessories. That ring falls off easily.

Her cape is put together pretty well.

So called "wolf" ears. Pfft.

The outfit is so very well made and the materials are lush. I'm impressed with the quality, the cut, the sewing; everything. Some better detail could have been added to her boots but that's minor to me and I'll add it myself anyway.

One thing I learned is that unlike Monster High bodies, the Ever After bodies are a near perfect fit for Disney heads. I don't know why though, because the knobs and neck bulbs look the same to me. Guess they aren't though.

I plan to shrink Cerise's head and if it doesn't get as small as I would like, and I doubt it will, then I'm giving her body to this thrift store Snow. I have always intended to repaint and turn this Snow into a Neemo [visit Heather's blog for more on Neemo's]. However, this is my first time finding a smaller articulated body that Snow didn't bobble head on. I will shrink Snow's head down more, but even without doing that, like I said, it's a darn good fit.

I surprised myself paying full price without breaking a sweat, but there must have been a full moon or something swaying my usual cheapness. I'm not paying full price for those Barbie Style dolls though - I'm still mad about that.

  1. I haven't been interested in purchasing any of the Ever After High dolls, but this one is cure. I want to see the results after the head shrinkage. I haven't had the nerve to try that yet.

    1. Roxanne, none of the others appealed to me as their clothing was too multicolored for me. Almost like a new age renaissance fair gone wrong. The Ever After head is nice and pliable but I don't expect it to shrink much, but I'll show it when I do.

  2. Fun yet spoilery fact: In the web series, Cerise DOES have rather pointed, almost elfin ears. Be sure you check her hood, some people have had glue seepage stains from where the plastic "staples" holding her head to the backing leaked. I *think* you can ask for the website price ($26) for the Ashlynn/Hunter pack at Wal-Mart, or just do site to store and get them cheaper than the in-store price.

I'm not a huge fan of the EAH dolls. They don't share clothes well with Monster High, (shoes are ok though), and the head shape is just.. blegh. I'm also not of fan of the fact that they seem to re-use the same head mold for most of the characters. I did buy Cupid though, because I loved her creepy yet kinda cute Monster High version. :D (Snow looks gorgeous on the Cerise body!)

    1. Thanks for that info, Presto! After your post I went to Youtube to search for the web series and saw The Cat that Cried Wolf. Now why couldn't they have given her ears like the ones in the show? It's not like they don't know how to apply big ol ears on a doll. Her doll would have been so much more dynamic.

I've read that Cerise has a different face mold than the other releases, something about her nose, but I cant really tell the difference.

    2. I know, right? I'd have been so tempted to get her if she had ears like the webisode character! I don't know what's going on with this line that they seem so much less likely to take risks than they are with Monster High. A wolfy-eared girl would have been so awesome.

I've heard that Ashlynn has a slightly less wide face than the original four girls, but I can't really tell from looking at the boxes. I did spend an inordinate amount of time in Target comparing faces before settling on a Cupid who I thought didn't look as pie-faced, though. (It may be wishful thinking!) I believe that Cerise is on a taller body than the "standard" EAH body, and Maddie is on a shorter one, so beware of that if you get tempted to buy more dolls from the line to swap clothes with.

    3. Presto, I forgot to say earlier that I did check my cape and it did have a huge stain on it, but I thought I did it because I eat at my desk and I'm sloppy.

  3. Very cool clothing and articulation is always needed. I hope the Ever After doll head shrinks well because she's actually quite cute. The Snow White head, I hate to say but she looks like she has buttons for eyes and reminds me of the " Other Mother" in Coraline, Lol.

Good to see you posting. Always look forward to it. :)

    1. Tracy, Cerise has just started her 1st round of soaking. I think I might do 3 rounds and see what happens.

LOL at your Snow comment. She does have button looking eyes which is why she's getting repainted.

  4. That is a really great outfit. I am looking forward to seeing what the head looks like after shrinking. I don't mind the look of the size of her head but I'm only going by the photos. There aren't any in the shops here yet.

    1. Carrickters, it is by far my favorite outfit of any I have purchased. If I were the feminine type I would wear it myself.

  5. The outfit on her is cute but I can't want to see what you will do to them boots! They are nice. I have never seen these doll in in Walmart so I will have to check. Even if it is to look.

    1. Brini, I think the EAH line came out this year, but from what I can tell Cerise was released in November maybe. This was my first time seeing her though and she was the only one in the store.

  6. Excuse me. I had to pick myself up off the floor. You paying full price just shocked me that much. I had never heard of the Ever After High dolls. I guess I've been under a rock. Her face is cute and interesting. I hope the head shrink thing works.

    1. LOL, Vanessa, hope you didn't hurt anything when you fell. I actually went into Walmart of get some of the 50% off Christmas stock but I was so late getting there all the good stuff was gone. I think I was just in the mood to spend some money.

  7. Hey Muff, I purchased the huntsman for his articulated body! I put Twilight Jacob's head on the body. It is not the greatest match but better than nothing. The neck knob is a lot smaller the Jacob's , so I had to do some things with it. I'll t to post pictures. I had to return him because the lower arm broke off. He may not be as sturdy as Ken dolls. I haven't had may MH dollls,so I don't. Know if that is common. For that price I want him to stay together. I loved his outfit, it works well with Jacob's persona. I see why you like her outfit too! It is very Abbey from NCIS! It would be great for Star doll Fallen Angel.

    1. Ms. Leo, his arm fell off?! I know that their wrists are supposed to be removeable, well, the girls anyway, so I'm not sure about the dude. When Monster High dolls first came out there was a lot of talk about their poor construction and arms breaking and falling out. Guess they are having the same issue with Ever After.

It is like something she would wear, but with probably black stockings with spiders going up the seam.

  8. I've seen the other Ever After High dolls, but wasn't keen on any of them. Cute, but meh. This one though - I love the outfit, her coloring, and the down turn of her mouth. Maybe List her ;-)

Thanks for sharing this rich review of her and her fashions. The box looks interesting, too. (And, yes, sometimes I get drawn in by the box graphics. Sometimes ... )

    1. Dana, in the store I thought she could be used for a black doll body swap but I was comparing her to Apple White or whatever her name is and she's super white. Marissa is probably the only ethnic doll that could match this body's coloring - if you don't mind her having a super skinny neck.

Too late to list her, she's already started the shrinking process. ^__^

    2. Muff, lol ... I'm all for the shrinking process.

Thanks for the complexion mention. Not sure if I would want Marisa to have a super skinny neck. Maybe one of the Best Friends Ink dolls?

  10. Cerise is too cute! I kinda/sorta like them, but I am trying to be extremely selective in my purchases. I have way too many dolls. Lol. I started out with one Monster High just to own one and here I am with the whole Wolf family and a few cats later. The Bratz dolls were the only dolls that I was able to keep my words to stay away from.

Nice review of her. Happy Holidays Muff!

  11. Love her! I think I am going to look for her to purchase. I did buy the double pack of the huntsman and other chick in, plus I got the same set from a friend of mine for Christmas so I will try and see how they do on a repaint ;-0)

  12. I got the hunts man but thats about it. I to wanted him for just his body but when i took him out of his box I couldn'y come to bear to remove his head. :( I dont think I will be getting anymore of these dolls anytime soon unless they go on sale.

    1. William, I like the look of the Huntsman over all so when I eventually find him I'll be leaving him as is as well. If he's really cheap later on, I'll probably get an extra to fiddle with.

  15. Does she really have a new facemold? I thought it was just her eyes were screened on a bit higher up, but I could be wrong. Whatever it is, her face does look better than the others.

    1. Anderson, if her mold is different, I really cant tell. Flickr chatter says that her nose shape is different but in comparing her to the other Flickr photos, she looks the same to me. I will say that other than that extremely round head, the rest of her face reminds me of a fox, not a wolf.

  16. If you have a hard time with a head bobbling after a rebody, if you put a small rubber band around the knob before you put the head on, it's a better fit.

    1. Thanks, Connor. I've used that method before, but it doesn't work well with Monster High bodies since they have that large bulb but small neck size.

  17. Do you think your head shrinking technique would work on the Startling Line up figures and Kenya male dolls?

    1. I dunno, AG. I don't have either of the doll lines you mentioned. It depends on how dense the head is. Usually, the harder the head, the less it absorbs the liquid, but that's not always the case.

  18. I'm really curious what became of your acetone Cleo head and such. I'm debating on shrinking an Ever After High head cuz they're so big but I dunno if the hard/huge amounts of glue in the scalp would affect it terribly or not....

  19. Oh I haven't SEEN this one before! Ugh, Alabama is lame for releases, I think Mattel likes to pretend it doesn't exist (which I almost can't blame but since this is where I'm shopping, I am therefore irked). I dig her kind of long nose, it's stand-out. But this line and their bobbly-heads--I picked up Raven Queen and the Hunter/Ellyn duo-pack out of curiosity but out of the box they all look like they have the measles. I'll be stalking your attempts to shrink and hoping SOMETHING works because it's really bugging me. And I don't remember if you've tried a Moxie Girlz shrink, have you? I know the Bijou teen went haywire, but I've got an adorable redhead who could stand to be re-bodied, but you know how it goes...

    1. Tina, that Ever After head isn't doing anything but mocking me, lol. I really do have to wonder if weather temperature has something to do with it since it took so long for Cleo to harden as well. I'm going to wait and see if Cerise hardens just a little bit before I attempt a redip on her.

I did put a Moxie Teenz [in acetone], but the results were pretty poor. I have not tried to shrink a Mozie Girlz though.
