Dollar Tree Goodies

With much thanks to Dana for her [Rosi Reports: Playscale Trash Cans] post and a follow up [comment by Ms. Leo], I was able to pick up some cool trash cans at the Dollar Tree! I had first seen cans like these in Carrickters post of last year, titled [Rubbish Bin = Trash Can]. The ones available in Australia are solid black versus the colored ones available here.

In addition to the blue and green versions, the store I went to also had them in Barbie pink. I didn't get those. Before you walk the entire store like I did, I found them near the register in a display stand. Pick wisely because some had broken lids and others were missing their wheels.

Jay is modeling the scale for us and you can see that the cans are a good 1:6 match. When standing straight up, Jay cant touch the top of the closed lid, but neither can I on my real garbage can. The hinge works and the wheels do roll. Even though some of the lids were broken in the store, overall, it's actually a hefty piece of plastic. More durable than I was expecting for a dollar, really. I'm sure if I dropped it on a hardwood floor it would break - but on a carpet, maybe not.

The Dollar Tree also had these pool tables! I know they are not to scale, but who cares, they were a dollar! Use dowels to add higher legs, fashion pool sticks out of bamboo skewers and rack 'em up!

I got these ping pong balls because I think they would make perfect light globes for street lamps or even great interior hanging lights.

All in all, a sweet little haul.

    1. Tracy, those bins are too legit to quit, lol. Yes, I'm old. Anyway, yep, I envision a little receptacle area where residents can take their trash and recyclables.

    1. Greetings from Florida, Marta! ^__^ My store did have a pink one too but the blue and green are more real life to me, but I guess that somewhere, someone might have a pink one at their house or business. 0.o

  5. Ok, off to the Dollar Tree today! Those trash bins will work perfectly in my 1:12 neighborhood! My life sized outside can comes to my chest and I am tall. Thanks for sharing this, lady! :-)

    1. Hi, Grandmommy! The bins are gargantuan next to my 1:12 figures. Although they do come to the chest of the 1:12 people, comparably, the bins are very wide so the scale seems off even though a real bin could be that high. But, I mostly have thin girls or thin Asian males in 1:12 scale, so if you have North American figures they could be wider.

    1. Brini, it had been a long while since I'd been to the Dollar Tree and they had A LOT of new items that I hadn't seen before, so they have some nice new stock to pick through.

Congrats on those lights, too. They will make cool street lights. The pool table is cute, too, but I really like the lights and the bins.

Yay, Muff. Finder of cool stuff!

  10. Hello Muff! The ping pong ball idea is very good! The other accessories are great too, like the pool table (is it more a dollhouse scale?).

    1. Hi, Nymphaea! Yes, I would say that the surface of the pool table is dollhouse scale, but the height of it is not. You would have to raise it up for a 1:12 doll. If you are using 1:16 dolls the height would be fine, but then the surface would probably look too wide.

  12. You have to wonder why someone decides to design, manufacture and sell a realistic 1/6 trash can, of all things?? Not that I'm complaining, of course. Wonder if i can find them here?

Speaking of pool tables, I recently found a roulette table in 1/6 scale (or close)! I'll have to take some pictures as soon as I find something I can use for legs.

    1. Anderson, there is a huge supply and demand for "novelty" merchandise, even some tailored for garbage persons, garbage trucks, recycle centers, etc. Amazon is a trove of goodies.

Me too on legs! I'm trying to figure out what to use as a base for my lamps - once I settle on a design.

  14. We have some colours of these bins in Australia too but they don't have the cool rubbish bin/recycle logos on them like yours. Your ability to see alternative uses for things amazes me - ping pong balls for streetlights. wow.
