Texas A&M Has Arrived

Thanks to [Debbie] letting me know that he was available online at Walmart for just $19.97, I finally got one! He has a few flaws (lacking small amount of paint in one eye, tiny nick in arm), but nothing so annoying that I will take him back. I'm very pleased with his overall quality. Compared to the unarticulated Basics version, the TAM has darker hair, is a smidge darker in skin tone and is kinda... shiny.

Left TAM, Right Basics

Left Shiny Sexy, Right Matte Sexy

Another thing I'm pleased with is the new (well, new to me) Ken Fashion pack that my TAM is wearing. I paid full price for it at TRU ($7.99) which was silly since it will probably be $5.89 at Target. But hey, I had a new doll and I wanted him to have a new outfit. I'm pretty messy around here so he cant be walking about in that white cheerleader uniform.

The shirt is one piece

Pack comes with a clip on phone...

... and detailed boots

Belt is from the male Basics accessory pack

The only real negative to the outfit is that because the shirt is one piece, he cant raise his arms any more than this. Still, I like the style of this top a lot. It looks like something you would see a real dude wearing.

I sure do hope that the TAM dolls make it to Tuesday Morning as some people expect they might, because I love the body. If they drop to $9.99 like some of the Twilight dolls did, I'm going to buy bunches and bunches!

  1. That was a quick arrival!

It's good to see a decent-looking Ken fashion that doesn't have his name plastered all over it. TAM looks good in the one you chose.

The bird shirt reminds me of the Alfred Hitchcock movie.

    1. Debbie, it was a quick turn around and he even arrived a day earlier than they said.

That bird shirt is from Liv Jake, lol.

  2. Congrats on both your Tam and your fashion. Nice to see basic tan pants and that jean jacket is pretty nice.

    1. Hi Marta, he is from the Barbie Collector Cheerleader line and he is the Texas A&M version.

  4. I like the jacket. You think you might end up cutting out the shirt? I also like his darker hair.

    1. Grandmommy, if I find the same set at Target or Walmart for cheaper, then I will get another one and modify it. I will cut the shirt out and dye the pants darker.

  5. Oooo! Love those smouldering eyes! What a hottie!

Fantastic to see some Ken clothes that don't look like they're made to coordinate with Barbie and her eternal pinkness. Love that shirt!

    1. Presto, there was another new clothing set and it was more in the tradition of the usual Ken clothing. 1961 baseball tshirt in pastel colors and tan board shorts. I left it in the store. The also had the usual hideous evening wear. Almost a blue velour jacket with a ruffly looking print. Not my style at all.

  6. Congrats, Muff! You're pictures make me fall in love with him again. I'm really loving that jacket, wow! Sooooo not Ken like. Hmm....now that he can " move" will Tasha want him back? Enquirer ingo minds wanna know. ;-)

    1. Tracy, I did wonder if this new fashion was keeping in line with the new "style" Barbies, but who knows.

Tasha will never ever get back with Jay. But now that he can move he will be featured better. And yep, I'm working on the 227 sets, but per usual, I'm slow as molasses.

  8. Yay and congratulations on getting your TAM guy. Thanks for the face close-up photo showing the difference between the guys.

That would be great if he were to go on sale a Tuesday Mornings. Good luck getting more bodies ;-)

    1. Thanks Dana! It sure is a nicely articulated form. More movement than the old fashionistas that's for sure.

  9. Alright Muff what kind of heads can you put on that body inquiring minds want to know. I have one of those Jake dolls from the first twilight dolls and I want to use him but I dont know what body his head would work on.

    1. I have Jacob and TAM but he's too dark for Jacob. Jacob is closer to Fashionistas Artsy/Nikki complexion. I'm hoping Mattell will create a real tanned version of the HD body because I'd love to use my Jacob too. :-)

    2. Mustiwait, what Tracy said, lol. Unless you are going to darken your Jacob with pastels, he wont be a good match. And nope, I don't know how to darken/lighten a doll with pastels, lol. I keep saying I'm going to try it but never have.

  11. Im so glad you got one Muff, Mattel finally did something right! love the outfit too! BTW did you ever find the Krud Kutter and have you deboxed all your clearance finds?

    1. Jay, if you mean the clearance stuff from this post, then no I haven't, except for one of the Cleo's. Even stuff I took out the box to show you guys I stuffed back in their boxes. I have turned into quite the boxing hoarder which is why I'm running out of room. I'm going to organize my boxes one day so I will have a FABULOUS display of them.

I did buy the Krud Kutter but have not done any experiments with it. It's on my very long list of things to try.

  13. Congrats on the doll and the outfit pack. I really like my TAM doll. Sadly most of my other male Mattle dolls are on a darker body or I would buy a few more too. I wonder if Mattel will do a new AA head sculpt soon. BTW, I haven't seen that fashion pack near here. You were lucky to have it. You could cut the shirt out and give it a back to have the fit you like.

    1. Ms. Leo, I did find an older Twist and Turn head black doll at the thrift store that would be a perfect match to the TAM body tone. He has a really big head but I can shrink it. I also want to articulate my AA Basics even though he's a tad lighter. One of them will get a makeover if I do get another body.

I will get another fashion pack to modify when I find them at a lower price.

  14. You made out pretty good. I do like the fasion pack and haven't seen it here in Charlotte yet, but I will keep a look out for it. I need to check Wally World more for deal. I don't know how I missed that sale.

    1. Congrats, Tiffany. Now that I have the one, I kinda think I should have ordered 2 like you. So much more leg movement than a Fashionista.
