Dollar Tree: Aroma Lamps & Led Lanterns

A year or so ago, one of the brand name scent companies (Glade?) released some aroma packs that looked liked miniature lamps. I never found them in my stores but now Dollar Tree is carrying a generic version. The scents stink (to me), but the "lamps" are cool.

Scents are Tropical (orange-ish), Fresh Linen (lime green), Ocean Breeze 1 (teal), Ocean Breeze 2 (blue), Lavender 1 (purple) and Lavender 2 (fuchsia).

It's super easy to dispose of the liquid inside. The top simply twists off and you can pull out the insert. I'm keeping the cap that is around the wick in case I want to insert a straw inside to make it look like wiring is hiding in there.  Word of warning. Use gloves when disposing the liquid or be very careful. I got some on my hand and it turned red and itched for hours.

They are the perfect size for your 1:6 dolls.

Pleated shade and swoop designs in the "glass"

Thanks to a post from The Grandmommy, I learned about these mini lights and purchased some off of Amazon for $7.90 with Prime.

I keep the rubber bands from doll packaging and wrapped several around one of the mini lights. A thicker rubber band would have been simpler, but this is what I had.

With enough bands around it, it wont fall into the bottle. I tried it with the light pointing up and the light pointing down. Here are some shots with all my lights off so you can see how much glow it illuminates.

Dollar Tree was also carrying an assortment of Led Lanterns. I say "was" because I got some early April and when I checked this weekend they were all gone. They had been carrying this Asian looking one and some Easter pastel looking ones. If you can find them they are worth the buck even if the light inside doesn't work.

Now they are not the scale for your doll to be carrying around, but if you like outdoor scenes, they would be great as the tops of street lamps. Gently pop off the top lid and then you can pull out the handles. The tea light inside is one of those flickering ones, but chuck in a mini light if you don't like the flicker. The white part pulls out completely and the tea light can be pushed out the bottom. The white part can be used as a planter or trash can. Put a piece of cardboard on the black part and use it as a table base. Multi uses for this thing!

  1. That's a good idea for those lamps! I haven't seen any around here, but I may need to stop by the Dollar Tree and see if they have any. I like the way the lamp illuminates when the bulb is facing down. Thanks for the info.

    1. My pleasure, Roxanne! Even though the lamps are a little traditional in shape, I think that with the bulb facing down, they would look good as table lighting in a night club or some overly dark and romantic restaurant.

  2. Hello from Spain: I really like the lamps. Great idea. I'll find those air fresheners in the stores in my city. You're very creative and inspiring. Keep in touch

    1. "Air fresheners!" That's what they are called, Marta. I could not think of that phrase for nothing and that's why I called them "aroma packs," lol. Hope you find some.

  3. At seeing the lights: oh, pretty. Good that there is a variety of colors so they can go in different settings. You could tweak the shades, replace them if necessary, to get a less traditional look. Or have a traditional lamp in an otherwise modern or exotic setting.

Those mini lights are so cute. Thanks for sharing this information.

    1. Good idea, D7ana! I was also thinking about changing the base to something taller or whatever. I'm always getting some kind of doodads or whosiewhatsits. I bet I could fashion a different lamp base.

  6. Hi Muff!
First "Hello!" I found my way to your blog via Flickr where someone posted a link to your head-shrinking tutorial. (Amazing!) Then I have spent many enjoyable hours over the last few days reading all of your blog posts and the comments. I love it! Not only do you have fantastic and creative doll ideas, but you make me chuckle with your witty remarks and sense of humor. Great writing style! Thank you for generously sharing yourself and your time with other doll enthusiast!

So about this post... These lamps are so cute and the perfect scale! They would also be cute filled with tiny seashells, beads, flowers, etc. I love finding 1:6 scale diorama supplies at Dollar Tree and will be on the look-out for these! The tiny light bulbs are fascinating - never knew these existed!

Thanks again for your blog and I'll be eagerly waiting all your new posts.

    1. Hello back, Zoila and welcome! ^_^ Thank you so much for taking to the time to visit my little corner of the doll world. That was quite an effort to read through 2.5 years of posts and I sure do appreciate it! Dolls and crafting have been an extremely pleasurable (although sometimes frustrating) past-time for me and I enjoy sharing my exploits with others.

Hmmm, I like the idea of adding something to the insides of the bottles for even more customization!

I also collect assorted types of lights, but it was my first time learning about the mini bulbs featured on The Grandmommy's blog. Glad to pass those along.

No effort at all! Very FUN! :) Thank YOU!

BTW, you have the best luck with finding great stuff at thrift stores! (Me, not so much). I'm wondering if you still have that huge princess castle/ dollhouse and if you've done anything with it. I'd love to see what you do with it. It has lots of possibilites, especially in your able hands. Bye for now...

    3. Zoila, I do still have that huge dollhouse but I have hidden it behind a table so I don't have to see it constantly mocking me because I haven't done a single thing with it. I've just added it to the enormous list of projects that I will eventually get to one day.

    4. LOL! Sounds familiar :) That's just what I do too!

  7. Wow, awesome finds! I saw some similar oil wick "lamps" at Walmart the other day but couldn't justify spending $4 on them. I'll grab some for a buck, though! I love that you made them light up!

    1. $4, Presto! I don't know that I would pay that much for something like these even if it was a name brand. But I dunno, maybe that's how much air fresheners are. But shoot, you could buy 2 bottles of 409 for that much money.

    2. I think it was technically a pack a two for $4, but yeah, still stupidly high. It's like these companies think we're made of money or something!

  8. I was thinking about fetting some of these for my dolls but if they caused a rash on you they might cause my sister severe welps and discomfort. Shes allergic to febreeze and products like it. Im glad you got some and found out about them causing a rash

    1. Sorry for double posting but it cut off half of what i was saying. Anyway lm glad you reviewed them before i got any because if my sister inhales or smells stuff like that she gets covered in welps and pain

    2. Oh no, Leandra! If your sister is smell sensitive then do not bring these anywhere near her. After this post I emptied out the rest of my bottles and even though I wore gloves to protect my hands, the scent was overwhelming and caused my lips to tingle and swell up slightly. Opening 11 bottles at once was just too much. When I opened 1 bottle I stupidly poured it down the sink and it still smells. When I opened the others I put a Ziploc bag into a Styrofoam cup and poured the liquid into that and then took it to a dumpster. If you do get some, dispose liquid elsewhere, wash the bottles in dishwashing liquid that your sister is used to, let them soak and then bring them back to your house once the smell dissipates. The wick holders I wanted to keep were super duper uber smelly and I had to put them outside. A day later and they still smell so I will check them in a week. The bottles just smell like dishwashing liquid now though.

    3. Thank you for telling me. If i do decide to get some i'll do what you told me.

  9. The aroma lamp and mini light combination is too clever-cool.

I have one, and you're right about the smell. It was some kind of stinky. I guess a trip to Dollar Tree is in order for a couple more. Thanks for the heads up.

    1. LOL, Debbie. I guess a pleasant scent is based on the nose that sniffs it. Some folk like smelly things... like I like pickled eggs and pig feet... and now I'm hungry.

  10. I have been waiting on the dollar store to get more of these but haven't had any luck, oh well I will have to make a trip on Thursday, lol. Thanks for head up on the lights too. Never about them.

    1. Hiya, Brini! The store I found these at had an over abundance of them so I don't know if doll enthusiasts had known they were there yet or my store just got their order in.

  11. Awesome post Muff! I have made it home and gotten comfortable and all, but a DollaR Tree run is a must! I have seen these there, but passed because of the stinky liquid. Thanks for the info that it can be poured out. Thanks for info on lights!!

    1. Thanks, Georgia Girl! Thankfully, my Dollar Tree is open to 10pm and they are right up the block from me. Sometimes I run up there like most people would run up to McDonald's or something, lol.

  12. I have the lamps. Those mini lights are a cool addition. I think I like them with the light going up, but I'm sure there would be just as many applications to use them in the down position. Thanks for sharing.
