Doll Show Setup

After taking a tally of my costs to do the show, versus what I earned, versus what I spent, I came home with a whopping $1.89 cents, LOL! Have to say though, I have no regrets. I had a blast, met some cool people, found out about other doll events coming up and even found out about a doll group in my area! So, even though I spent my entire profit, it was worth it for not only the things I purchased but for the connections I made.

Check out what I got!

Strombecker dining table with 2 chairs $20

3 more chairs for $5 each

Because the table is missing its middle leaf, the vendor threw in this Strombecker rocking chair for free

Becky $15, Korean Barbie $10 and Kimono was free

Back of the Kimono box

The Kimono box also had this flyer in it.

Collecting Barbie $10

Mary Kate and Ashley $5 each

Miscellaneous bag of stuff $10

My first Re-ment! $20

All of these were free! I spent so much at one vendor that at the end of the day she came to my booth, grabbed my $5 GI Joe doll, and gave me all of these in exchange. AWESOME!

I'm just throwing her in again because she's gorgeous!

I also didn't notice there was a second layer of cellophane covering these that made them fuzzy looking before. Now I can see them clearer.

Anyway, I had a grand time and it was worth the effort. I was busy the day of, so all the video footage is from the day before when we were allowed to set up.

Thank you to everyone for their generous well wishes!

  1. Again, you cleaned up! I can't believe the vendor gave you all those DOTW in exchange for a $5 GI Joe. Wow! Shows are like that -- you usually just break even, but the connections you make there are priceless. It's also wonderful that you discovered a doll group in your area.

Another thing about show endings is that most vendors don't want to have too much to return home with so they will mark things down and/or give items away as in the case of the DOTW that you received.

I'll come back and watch the video later.

    1. Debbie, you are exactly right! The vendor said, "It's less stuff that I'll have to take back." I can understand that because it felt like I took home more stuff than what I came with and I probably did, lol.

  2. I am amazed that you came home with some pocket change! You had some really great buys both in what you were selling and what you bought. Amazing deal at the end there with 6 DOTW for 1 GI Joe! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

    1. Phyllis, I should have been more thrifty in what I bought, but I think the deals I got were awesome. Next time I'll know to take separate spending money so I don't go through all my profit willy nilly.

  3. What an awesome haul!!!! I especially love the table and chairs and the little Krispy Kreme-esque donuts!!!!

I did a doll show with my friend and ended up, if you count what I spent, in the hole, LOL... I only sold $60 worth of stuff because I mostly had Azone/Japanese things and it was very definitely a Vintage Barbie and Baby Doll kind of show. -_-

But then I found a bunch of American Girl Doll Felicity's stuff... cheaper than it was before they discontinued it... and in excellent condition, and, well... I had to buy it XD

    1. LOL, Heather! After the show I met a couple of vendors at the restaurant next door and we commiserated about who made a profit, who broke even and who spent it all buying more doll stuff. I was in the last category. ^__^

  4. Now shows like this- it is well worth the table expense for the swag you brought home, the connections you made and a dolly group to boot! A word - the strombecker table and chairs can sell on ebay for way more than you bought them for! You got a great deal on them! There is a dealer at my favorite antique center who had a whole set with the bed and table and chairs and sofa for $130 it was about 7 pieces or 8 but I have always walked away from it because of cash shortage. Incredible deal! You are going to have some fun with the swag i can tell Muff! And the Rement!!!

    1. Lisa, I'll admit to my naivety and say that I never heard of Strombecker until this show. There were also some gorgeous Jun Planning chairs in the video that were out of my budget at $30 a piece. I see on eBay that the Strombecker furniture was intended for 8" dolls or smaller, but they fit the 11.5 inch girls so well.

  6. Replacing things you weren't excited about owning with things you ARE excited about, at essentially par, seems like a win to me. You got amazing bargains!

I'm sort of drooling over the Strombecker and the Re-Ment.

  7. Muff,
You really cleaned up! I consider those International Barbies as potential inventory if you desire to sell them one day! I love the fun atmosphere of shows for the very reasons you mentioned. I hope we will be hearing about your adventures with your new doll group!

    1. Grandmommy, I know how antisocial I am, so we'll have to see how the doll group goes. They meet every 1st Saturday of the month. I cant attend March's so I wont be attending until April. I'll let you know if I could hack it!

  8. Hello from Spain: I love the party atmosphere and fun of this event. You're lucky. You do not have benefits, but you do fabulous shopping. Your furniture and accessories are awesome. Keep in touch

    1. Thanks, Marta! Now that you mention it, it was kind of a party atmosphere. Well, at least for me. It was probably the same old routine to the other vendors.

    1. Thanks, Major! I had found an Olsen at the Thrift Store awhile ago, but this was my first time seeing them both together. I couldn't remember which one I had, so decided to get both.

  11. Oh boy, that is awesome! The dolls, the booklets, and the accessories! Not to mention real life doll collector connections. Those Rement pastries look edible ;-)

Ok, going to check the video. Thanks for sharing your finds. Yay, Muff!

    1. My pleasure, D7ana! Don't tell anyone but I did lick one of the pastries, lol. There was one original Re-ment box in the group and it had something soft and squishy in it. The lady thought it was gum. I wasn't sure, but I wasn't going to chew it. But then I thought, "Are these things like scratch and sniff?" I couldn't read the language and they didn't have any odor, but I know I've seen Youtube videos of this kid opening Re-ment and other Japanese stuff and some was edible. I can tell you without a doubt, what I have is not edible and it's not scratch and sniff.

  14. Your setup was very nice! You had some great items and great prices, so I am surprised you didn't sell out. That was extremely generous of the person who traded for GI Joe. Your haul is awesome as always! Looking forward to seeing your rements in your stories.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Georgia Girl, I probably just zoomed in on the super cheap stuff, but everything I had wasn't exactly priced to sell. Most of my boxed doll were at retail prices so I would have been surprised at those selling. I also noticed that the customer base was strictly adult collector. There wasn't a single kid customer in the showroom. Parents buying for their kids would have liked my stuff, but collectors buying for themselves would know better.

  15. Congrats! You really scored! I love that wooden table and chairs. There is always such interesting things at those events. It is also meeting the people to and being inspired! I'm glad you had a good time. I'm sure it will inspire many posts.

  16. Thanks for sharing your wonderful doll show experience. I was already impressed with your booth set up but it really was shinning brightly in the show. The other booths in the video were also very nice. The doll shows I have been attending look a lot junkier. Enjoy all your new items!

    1. My pleasure to share, Limbe Dolls! The guy in charge of the show was VERY specific about how the booths were to look and how he expected vendors to act. He set a standard and wasn't kidding about it either.

  17. Strombecker pieces are very high quality, and your MH doll looks great with your pieces!

I have the spaghetti in a jar piece that came from a different set than what you have. That particular set was made by a company called OCARA. I wonder if your spaghetti came from them as well? I love that cheese grater!

    1. Barb, as a Re-ment newb I have no clue about the items I purchased. I didn't even know that the spaghetti comes out of the jar until I dropped it.
