My First Trade!

Dolly blogger, Ms. Leo, did a post of some thrift store items she purchased.  One of them was a My Scene doll.  Since she's not a fan of oversized heads, she agreed on a trade.  She got one of my nekkid Justin Bieber dolls and I got her awesome My Scene head! Woot woot!  Muff is pleased!

Here she be!  A little unkempt from her thrift store adventures, but I'll fix that.  This is my first time seeing one of these dolls in person.  The line had come and gone before I even knew it existed. I went online to find out more about them and at best I figure I have this lady.

The MyScene.com website had some videos and games but the bio details were sketchy.  They all seem to be, "Daddy this, limo that and I like clothes."  I'm going to assume that Madison is mixed raced since she has a euro nose and blue eyes.  Perhaps latino or black heritage?  Personality wise, I mostly get a french vibe from the one I have so I think she'll be my first french black canadian.  I may change her eye color though, so who knows.

My only complaint is this goopy, thick, glitter encrusted eye shadow.  Ugh, I loathe glitter.  It is my nemesis.

I don't recall seeing any photo comparisons so I did not realize My Scene heads were so large.  I thought they were playline size but they are more comparative to Monster High heads.  They are not as wide as a Monster but from head to chin they are very similar.

However, if you compare them based on hair line placement, the My Scene is longer.  I only have Monster wolves so I don't know if the other Monsters have such tall scalps.  Maybe wolves just have bigger brains. ^_^.  Anyway, it's time for some changes to this My Scene doll so it's off to the salon!

It took me almost an entire episode of Psych on Hulu to tame her hair.  That's a whole lot of water wasted.  Sorry environment, but my doll needed that water!  Could be because of its age or how the rooting was done, but as you can see by that big ball, her hair came out way too easily.  Once I finished detangling, I did go ahead and remove the rest of her orange highlights.  Orange hair is a little too scene for my tastes.

I detangled her strictly with water and no conditioner.  Two reasons: 1) if you are not careful and get conditioner on the face paint, it will weaken it and make it easy to come off and 2) since I intend to shrink her head, using conditioner now and then dunking her head in nail solution would be a very bad idea.

After hair, she took a turn in the makeup chair and I removed that hideous glitter.  I may take off the frosted shadow, but now that the glitter is gone I don't mind it so much.  I don't have an articulated body for her yet so she wont get one until Fashionistas go on sale.  I do have some Liv bodies available, but she seems too mature for a Liv body.

This was a fun experience and I hereby pronounce this trade a success!  Thanks, Ms. Leo!

  2. I'm not good at knowing what things such as an "euro nose" are but it's possible that Madison is meant to be a certain race (well more likely she's mant to be whatever race you want her to be, cause you know.) You may know this already but the whole My Scene line only had, what, 4 total head molds in its entire short history? And they never used the head molds to differentiate the girls, they always used the same one for all 4 (or 5? or 6?) girls over a period of several months, so Kennedy and Nia and Chelsea and Madison and whoever else hung about looked essentially the same, with swapped colours. Your Madison's mold is a pretty rare one incidentally, I think it might have been exclusive to the roller girls series. Possibly because it looks somewhat mean and (I hope you don't mind me saying that) slightly.. porny, so Mattel didn't use it for long? Haha.

    1. Hahaha, Alrunia! "Slightly porny." Hmm, perhaps that's why I feel she is better suited to a more "mature" body. I'm glad I got a rare one then, as the others I looked up on flicker all had the side eye glance. If they didn't assign ethnicity as part of the line then I'm cool with chosing my own. By euro nose I meant european. Thanks for all this info because I didn't know any of it.

  3. Love the my scene dolls! I actually repainted three as fairies in an earlier post! Your Madison is cute! It's funny, my hubby just found three online and got them for me for mothers day lol I will snap a few pics so you can see them. Love how you took off that disgusting glitter. That along with glitter lips annoy me! Great swap!

  4. Muff she is Roller Girls Madison. I have one around here somewhere. I love My Scene and Madison is my favorite. I think of her as black but not necessarily mixed. I figure she rocks colored contacts every now and then..LOL. Now I will have to do a My Scene post :O)

  5. I love My Scene dolls!! Although they are a "we-compete-with-Bratz" they have definitely a plus! Madison is so cute! I own one too, I bought her months ago at a bankruptcy sale for a few euros. I was very pleased to find her. Mine is from the first wave, that with big feet, beach series. She has a nice outfit and cool accesories :) I totally agree with you for the glittered makeup. I like glitter but when enough is enough!!!

    1. Sergio, I wasn't collecting during the Bratz versus Mattel period, which I guess Mattel won? Either way, if My Scene was the result then they need more competition to get them to make more varieties of dolls.

  10. Hello from Spain: congratulations on your doll My Scene. I have only two dolls like that. Do not use them because they have a big head compared with Barbies. Congratulations for the great job you did with her hair. How do you reduce the head?? Keep in touch.

    1. Thanks, Marta! I did a post a long time ago about how I reduce heads. You can find it at this link.

  12. Congratulations on your successful trade, Muff!

That is a lovely Madison. I think I have seen the roller blading My Scenes in some Rite Aid stores in Philly and the surrounding suburbs. Might have done.

Some My Scene had articulated bodies; I've used their bodies for some regular Barbie and other dolls. Mattel had several clothing sets for them AND some of the neatest Mattel playsets and cars. I sold my guys not long ago, but I still have some female dolls for sale.

Other resource for them is the MyScene Forum.

    1. Thanks for that Forum info, D7ana. Through it I've been able to find a lot more images of the dolls. I see there was even a version where the girls are smiling. Looks like Mattel went all out and many of the fashions are steller!

  13. I have several Madison dolls. I really like the My Scene dolls, even though I don't use them in stories. I do use their clothes on my Barbies. I haven't been able to part with any of them after undressing them. Most of the men have articulated bodies and I have used several to articulate my male dolls and give them height. I just recently bought 4 of the guys from D7ana for rebodying purposes. I may have to consider shrinking a few heads, just to get a Madison and Chelsea in the mix.

Aren't we all of mixed race? I love watching the PBS show where they delve into different celebrity and famous people's history. Love the part where they do the chart and tell what percentage they are of each race. Surprise!!! You too are of mixed heritage.

    1. Orrr, Vanessa, you could start a whole different story featuring large headed dolls and then you don't have to shrink them. ^_^

    2. You mean do that and the miniatures? I have to admit, I enjoy seeing the big headed LIV dolls in action on YouTube. A lot of the young girls really focus on the big headed dolls. I think that is why the Fashionista heads have gotten bigger.

I think I am doing enough already.

    1. Oh, so you recognized her as a Roller Girl, Dailey? I was not familiar with them at all, but now I have 2 My Scene girls in my doll collection! ^_^

    2. Yes, I recognized her because she is one of my favorite My Scene dolls of all time! It would be awesome to find her in stores, too bad Mattel stopped making My Scene dolls.
I'm glad that you have two of these beauties now, they are awesome additions to any doll collection!

  15. I like Roller Girls Madison's new look! She's giving off a space-age, slightly Sigourney Weaver vibe, and she seems to be wearing a neck-to-toes futuristic/ space exploration body suit. Then again, I'm a total fan of "Alien" these days!

Madison's Mattel-given information always stated that she was African American and Puerto Rican, but I agree that Roller Girl's Madison looks EXTREMELY elegant, AND totally sexy! I think that My RG Madison actually has a slightly French-sounding name (I'll have to see weather that's her first name, or her middle name).

Her face mold isn't actually unique to the RG line; it began being used on the Swappin' Styles 2 Kennedy doll during 2006.

Madison was always portrayed as the Veruca Salt ("I want it NOW!" Yes, THAT Veruca Salt.) of the My Scene crew, but such types always fascinate me, so I was cool with that.

Of course, there was also a girl at my college who looked EXACTLY like Julie Dawn Cole, too, but that's another story... :)

    2. Hi, Peppermint Snowdrift! (Great name!) I can't believe that I guessed Madison's heritage correctly! Mattel must have done a good job on the screening for me to have picked that up.

Thanks for sharing all your My Scene knowledge!

  16. Hi, Muff.

Which doll did that all-white body belong to before? Did you ever get a Fashionista body for Roller Girls Madison's head, and, if so, what did you do with the white body afterwards? Do you still have it?

    1. Hi, Peppermint! I have a bunch of Madison heads now and they share a articulated Fashionista body. The white body is from the Harumika Mannequin Collection. I featured her in these posts:

I still use the body to model doll heads that I sell in my shop.
