2013 Fashionista Ladies

One of my Walmarts has these for $11.87.  They did not have the 2013 guys.  Instead they had the 2012 males, finally!  However, I still don't have Ryan because of the 6 versions they had of him, each one was hit with a freakin' wonky stick.  Ugh!  I'll have to see if Targets are getting him in so I can score a sale or use a coupon.

I have about 4 dolls waiting on a Nikki body but they'll have to wait for a BOGO.  This Nikki looks like a mermaid in that outfit and there is glitter in her top, sigh.  Her pants are half prints with a solid teal color in the back.

I had noticed before that the 2 Barbies in previous releases had one with an open mouth and one with a closed. They are both open in this wave. I wonder why they made the switch? I like Raquelle's boots and that's about it.

Eeek! Summer's highlight makes it look like she has a head wound and Teresa looks like she has rust running down her hair.

I know I'm being a total Negative Nelly about this wave, but the glitter in every outfit and those awkward highlights are totally turning me off.  I'll be skipping the 2013 girls.

  1. I don't understand why Mattel is doing this, but the dolls are getting uglier.
Teresa has even the same shoes as in Clutch Wave 1. And I'm curious why have all the dolls almost straight hair ;)

    1. Hi, Ajatoco :) I'm trying to remember the other waves and I think they always had straight hair. Well, I've only ever seen 2 waves before this so it's possible I don't know what I'm talking about, lol.

  2. They need a new design team thats what they need or maybe someone just needs to realize that they have different audiences. I saw these dolls at my store, I didin't buy any but I am curious to see what they did to the guys.

    1. Mustiwait, I saw the guys on Flickr and they have been given the same multi color treatment outfits (which actually look good on them), but no hair highlights. They also have unarticulated legs again.

  3. Good grief, they all look like they've got the same head mold!!! Whatever happened to the old Teresa mold? I do like Nikki though; not going to lie there.

    1. RagingMoon, I thought that Teresa look different but I couldn't be sure. That Summer is different than the last one released but I know she's been a Summer before. Guess they like to mix it up.

  4. I won't buy any of them as I like neither the faces nor the outfits. I want the old fashionistas back!

    1. Acerico, we still have some of the pivotal torso Fashionistas here. I think I should snap them up if they are going to continue with these versions.

  5. Hello from Spain: the truth is that fashionistas are getting ugly and corny dresses. Anyway, I'll buy some but for the articulated body. In my country are not yet on sale. Keep in touch

    1. LOL, Marta! I haven't heard the phrase "corny" in a long time. All that dyed fabric is giving me a 70's flashback.

  6. Why Mattel, Why? Poor Raquelle...He has got the worst hair, make up and dress...Why Mattel, Why?

    1. Natalia, I thought the color of the streaks in Raquelle's hair were too loud and then to put them front and center of her forehead seems a bit much. I think she got a big old pink stripe before.

  7. Ugh, big heads look like they are back in style again too. When will they just give us normal articulated dolls without the weird streaks?? About the only thing these girls are good for is a bodyswap.

    1. Lisa, I will say that when I saw my photos I thought that their heads look bigger than usual. But in the store when they were surrounded by other dolls, their heads didn't appear so large. Nikki's face in particular seems rather puffy in my photo.

    1. LOL, Miss Lola! I'm sure that's not the effect that Mattel was going for.

  9. I have seen some of them. I will only buy for articulation if they reduce them or BOGO.

Lol to Miss Lola 77's comment!

    1. Georgia Girl when Target does a Fashionista BOGO I can usually get them for $8.50 each. They should be marking down some stuff again right before Christmas.

  10. LMAO, Miss Lola is totally right. I haven't bought any fashionistas since the very first wave. The only way I can really convince myself to buy a doll just for the body is that, Hey, at least I'll get a new outfit/shoes/some cool accessory too. But, man, these are all just YICK! Curious to see the guys.

    1. Smidge girl, I give myself the same reasoning when I buy a doll for its body. If I don't like the head I tell myself I can always experiment on it. And that's why I have jars and jars of heads sitting around, lol.

  11. I miss the old fashionistas sooooo much!!! I won't buy any of these new, and for the same reasons you give...

  12. OMG... you are too funny! I laughed at your descriptions, especially Summer's highlights head wound. LOL!

I just purchased the 2012 Nikki to redress, but haven't had the time to do it.

Hope you're able to find the Nikki's you need and Ryan.

BTW, were these photos taken at the store? Do you just photograph or do you ask permission?

    1. Hiya, DBG! Yes, I took these photos in the store with my phone. I have never asked permission to take a photo. That just gives them a chance to say no. At Walmart and Target I feel no shame about taking pics. As noted in the first photo I will even rearrange the dolls if I want (I put them back though, lol). For the longest time I was afraid to take a photo in Big Lots, in fact, I think I've only done it once for my Epic Moments post - BUT I made sure I bought something, lol. I've never taken a photo at Michaels, Joanns, Hobby Lobby, etc. - but that doesn't mean I wouldn't.

I look at it this way. All the store photos I take are to show what is on the market (good or bad), so it's a potential sale for some franchise or production company. If any one ever told me to not take a photo I would honor that particular store. It's not like I feel I'm entitled to take store photos but I'll keep doing it until told otherwise.

    2. I've never had trouble taking photos at Target, Walmart, or Big Lots, but I have been told NOT to take photos at Toys R Us. IKEA is another store that asks that you NOT take photos. Sigh. Shrug. I can understand IKEA because they might not want to have their design arrangements copied AND they do offer free, full color photos of their stuff in paper catalogs. TRU though ... sigh. Yes, you can see their stuff online, but their photos don't capture what the actual product looks like.

Thanks for sharing the photos though. You do a GREAT job showing what is there as opposed to a manufacturer's "press" photo.

    3. Dana that is interesting about TRU because now that I think about it, I've only taken photos there once for the Bratzillazs. One reason I don't take photos at TRU is because there is always an employee going up and down the isles. Sure I take photos willy nilly but I'm not going to be all blatant about it and do it in front of staff.

I should point out that I only use my phone to take store photos. If I whip out a single shoot camera or a big old DSLR, then yeah, I would question me too. LOL, that did happen to me in Starbucks one time when I had my DSLR and camera bag and they told me with a quickness that no photos are allowed inside or outside of ANY Starbucks. Hrmph! I was with other photographers though so maybe they didn't appreciates us as a whole. Double Hrmph!

    4. Thanks, Muff.

I always feel like I am "stealing info" or something if I just take a photo on my own without asking. Not that I haven't done it. I have, at Target, but I was very nervous about doing it.

I did it at a Wal-Mart once too and rearranged the dolls so I could get good photos. Still, then, I was nervous and expecting an employee to pop up at any moment and tell me that I could not photograph the dolls.

Your pictures are great. If you had not divulged the use of a camera phone, I would never have known!

    5. I don't have problem taking pictures in the big box retail stores. To me, we are helping them get sales through promoting their stock. They should be happy. In Walmart and Target, the security people are seeing you do it anyway. They apparently don't care, or they would alert someone to come take a look. I was very nervous in the AG store taking pictures, but no one stopped me. I had my regular camera too.

    6. Vanessa, you are brave. I would never whip out my real camera in a store. I would expect the police to be called or other shenanigans would occur.

    7. I've asked at Walmart and at Target - both stores were okay with me taking photos.

TRU employees do haunt the aisles, lol. Hard to sneak in a photo with a camera.

Starbucks is funny. I mean, your Starbucks story. What do they think will happen ... you'll sell the photos to evildoers who will then know where to plant bad things?! Sigh. Then again, you never know ....

I thought the dolls look "knock-kneed."

    1. Dana I don't know what the deal is with this wave or why I'm having such a negative reation to it. I think that overall it's just offensive to my color pallette.

  14. Ha ha it does look like they all have to peeM I actually purchased a few of the Niki dolls from TRUs, They were marked down to $9 on sale and then an additional 25% off with a store coupon so I wound up paying like $6.82 or so for them. That was all I was happy to pay! They will be used for body donors lol

  15. Hi Muff thanks for sharing this post!:)
I think too many tacky colours have been put together on the dolls which make them look like puppets not divas! ;)
I might buy Nikki as she is the only one who looks a lil okay to me! :D
Btw Mattel guys are never relased in my country, which is very annoying......aarrrgghhhh!!!!!

  16. Muff what was Mattel thinking? I dont find any of these chicks cute they look a little slutty to me. The only thing that is cute is Nikki's shirt and (I guess thats barbie next to Nikki) and that big flower broch on her dress I could see that as a head band of some sort. The best wave was the clutch line we had pivotal torso's and the new kness. Sigh!!

    1. Jay there are just too many colors. From their clothing to their make up and even the packaging - it's over the top for me. I'm not going to swing a slutty stick at them, lol but yeah, clutch with pivotal torso was the best.

  17. They sell also a glitered blister of pink aspirins with those Fashionistas? With their big heads, they have to suffer often of epic headaches

    1. LOL, Sergio! I've never heard tale of glitterd pink aspirins but if such a thing exists, I'm sure Mattel makes it.

  20. I saw some of these for the first time yesterday. I was very disappointed in the outfits. I was loving the Racquelle doll, but mainly because I saw her restyled on flickr. The hair looked really nice there. I never really concern myself with what the dolls look like because they are primarily just bodies to me. I was getting worried when it seemed like the fashionistas weren't being restocked because this $12 body is so much cheaper than all the other articulated bodies. That Summer doll with the red streak is just horrible. Thanks for the pics. My store didn't have the Nikki doll. I was curious about her look.

    1. Vannessa, when it comes to articulated dolls I kind of want them to be a total package. If I was a big repaint artist or rerooter it probably wouln't matter to me. Since I'm not, I want to already start with a nice hair style, face paint and a decent outfit.

Granted, I'm always limiting myself based on what I've paid for things in the past. When I first got into this, Fashionistas were $10.89 and Livs could be found for $5-$9. This completely spoiled me and I expect more than I'm currently getting for my money. Admittedly, I'm probably the cheapest shopper ever, but I don't want regressed articulation and lacking fashions for higher the cost.

  21. Hello Muff ;) I think that fashionistas aren't beautiful... Maybe number 1 is a bit nice. They are very beautiful bodies... Old fashionistas were nicer...
