Retr-O-Rama Collectibles Show

Last weekend I attended the Retr-O-Rama show that was held in the same venue as Knight's Doll and Bear Show. I'm a big fan of old movies, anime and sci fi, so that was the main draw for me going to this. I actually didn't take much money with me because I'm saving up to attend the Knight's show in November.

I only bought 4 things and here they be freshly washed and drying off.

A vendor wanted $80 for this entire set, which is a very good deal. However, I only wanted the Wicked Witch of the East doll and I didn't have $80 anyway. I also already have that Dorothy because I found her at the thrift store. I circled by his booth a couple of times and finally he said I could have just the Witch for $40. I didn't have $40 either, lol. So for the first time I let my mom buy me something because I REALLY wanted her.

Here she is prewashing in case I totally ruined her outfit by soaping it. From pictures I've found online, it looks like she's only missing her hat. Those shoes are only on her feet because there are plastic ties around them. Once removed, they don't fit over the stockings, nor do they fit over her naked feet either.

Her stockings are stained from the dress in the back, but it's not too bad. When you push a button in her back she plays Ding Dong The Witch is Dead. She only has click knees, but they hold their position pretty well.

Her outfit survived the cleaning. That emblem on her tummy is peeling off so eventually I may need to apply some fabric glue to it. I like the clothing a lot. She looks like a harsh head mistress from the 1800's.

Her facial screening is glorious. I don't want to offend any Fashion Royalty folks, but she really gives me an FR vibe, albeit a poor man's version.

I hope I can find a pale articulated body that will suit her.. and all the other pale heads I have. The Liv Sophie is the right body shade, but I want a more mature body than that. I was hoping Fashionista Raquelle would work, but she's too pink. Does anyone know if the Barbie Frank Sinatra or Elvis dolls are pale toned?

I also picked up a 1:12 Sesshomaru figure from the Inuyasha anime for only $5. He's a very good likeness to his character. He's not very articulated, but no matter. He's just supposed to stand there and look pretty.

Mr. Spock for $20. He's from the same line my Sulu is from. Even though the vendor swore he was new in box and based on the tape, he probably was, but he was covered in fuzz, or mold or webbing or something. This was the first time I had to wash a doll that was in a box. I also sprayed the box with bug spray in case a spider was living in there.

He comes with two right hands and his "shoes as feet" are much better than that of Sulu who comes with boots. With minimal effort you can get his feet off, but I wouldn't make a habit of it.

The bottom of his pants are shaped so that it's actually easy to get them over his feet. His jacket is very detailed and is one piece sewn together at the shoulder.

I wanted to see if the jacket could be an asymmetrical dress for the ladies. You'd have to modify the sleeves and take in some of the bodice, but I don't want to do all that, so never mind.

Lieutenant Uhura for $10! Okay, not a very good likeness to Nichelle Nichols and not really a doll, but I still thought she was super cool. She's only articulated at the waist and shoulders. Her arms seem exceptionally long and her legs very short. But I dunno, I found her quite appealing.

She's only 9.5 inches compared to Spock's 12 inches. And no, I don't ship these two. I did not see the first newer version of Star Trek but I saw the second one and I don't like them as a couple at all. They turned Uhura's character into some whiney, clingy girlfriend who's more focused on her boyfriend than doing her job. Bleh.

Just because she's an "action figure" doesn't mean I cant dress her up, lol! So far I've found two outfits she can wear. She'll always have to wear skirts, but she's got the legs for 'em. ^_^

The rest of these photos are just general ones showing the venue, some items and a few of the people who came in costume.

I never knew Spiderman had... or needed a crime lab

  1. Great finds! I've always loved the Wicked Witch of the East, but never got her. I do however have a Sinatra Barbie doll, it is very pale, and a lot less pink than the Fashionista dolls. I have my Audrey Hepburn Roman Holiday doll on that body and it's a good color match.

    1. Cool beans, Aubrey! Thanks for letting me know about Sinatra Barbie. I'll start trying to find one at a good price.

    2. There's also the Divergent Tris (I think, I mean it's the Lea faced lady) doll that comes with a Fashionista molded body in a paler skin tone than Raquelle as well, plus I've seen her go on clearance lately so that's an option as well, but I understand if you prefer the molded body details that the Pivotal sculpt has lol.

    3. Whoops forgot to mention that yeah, my Divergent girl doll I have matches the palest Liv body I have so yea.

    4. Thanks so much, Jawn! I did get my male divergent for $13 at TRU, but wasn't really interested in the lady. I'll put a doll head in my pocket and see if I can find her on sale this weekend to compare the tone. If not, I still have some reward points at Amazon and even if I paid full price there, she's still $14 cheaper than any of the Sinatra dolls I've been seeing on line. I don't care if she doesn't have a pivotal torso, just as long as the rest of her is articulated.

  2. That looked like fun! Although I am not usually fond of witches...I kind of like this lady! I would never say I am a sci-fi fan, but I would have enjoyed those guys in costumes. When it comes to things like that I am a big kid!

    1. Grandmommy, I've mostly gone to Xena conventions but I would like to go to something like Comic Con but on a much smaller scale so I can see all the people in their cosplay.

  3. My first thought upon seeing that gorgeous Wicked Witch was "now we know what happens when Fashion Royalty get swept up in a tornado and lands in Oz."

FR would totally declare themselves ruler of whatever magical country they landed in. There are probably distant civilizations where FR are worshipped as deities.

    1. I know plenty of people who currently worship them here on Earth!

    2. Smaller, having long admired FR's, but not their prices, I am very happy to have my fake one that I can pretend is a Fashion Royalty cousin.

  4. What a fun post! These were really good finds. I like your Uhura figure, and I think that she does look a little bit like Nichelle Nichols. I wonder what's the story with the filthy dirty storm trooper?

    1. Roxanne, I don't want to start a riot, but even though I saw the original Star Wars when it was released in theaters, I never was a fan of it or any of the sequels. So, I'm just guessing that the storm trouper has been in battle and got dirty in combat. I don't know why he has an orange protective piece on his shoulder either.

  5. I have that wicked witch of the east still in the box and her screening is lovely. I always thought for such a beautiful doll her shoes were cheapola. she does have some of the FR fierce facial features...and yeah, a frank sinatra body will probably work for her. Looks like you had fun!

    1. Lisa, I was surprised by the shoes myself, especially when they wouldn't even fit on her feet with the stockings off.

  6. Looks like you had fun at the show! That witch is fierce! I'm a Ghostbusters fan, so I'm loving the guys in costume and the Slimer I saw in one of the photos.

    1. Jewell, if you like Ghostbusters perhaps you would be interested in the Retro Action The Real Ghostbusters Set, if you don't already have it. I picked one up when TRU was having their Clearance Buster for $6. It's currently $12.95 on Amazon. I haven't opened it, but it says the package becomes the Ghostbusters firehouse up to 22 inches.

  7. Interestingly Muff I thought the same thing when I saw the witch. My thoughts were...I didn't know FR had a witch. So you are not alone in that. Have you checked her out to see if she is an Integrity toy doll?

    1. Hiya, Georgia Girl! I sure have checked her out. I did it while I was still at the venue because I looked on my phone right there to see what her pricing was new in box. It was WAY cheaper to buy that guy's used one! She sure cleans up nice though.

  11. Knight's Doll and Bear Show looks like fun! Great shopping! The EW has the Nikki mold from the Top Models series, you know, Daria, Marisa, some Barbie collectors think they're too masculine (hope is the right word) and that Mattel blinked an eye to the FR collectors, but, as an owner of both, Top Models barbies (I have all the 3 models) and FR dolls, I can say Mattel is tooooo far from that. Anyway, the EW skin tone is peace, that is more pink than a nostalgic skin tone (Elvis, Sinatra, Mistress of Ceremony Jazz Barbie) but if you dress her and with the right light, is not noticeable, even if a Tris body world be cheaper than a pivotal body.

For the record, Integrity Toys released a FR Wizard of Oz version in 2011, was composed of 3 dolls (Natalia Fatale, Isha Kalpana Narayanan, Rayna). Natalia featured the EW character, Go West, Isha featured the North witch character, Go North, and Rayna was Dorothy, Go Home. I own the Go West doll and my Bride of Dracula Lucy wears the Go North outfit

    1. Wow, Sergio, so very informative! I didn't know what the heck you were talking about when you said my dolls skin tone was peace. So I did some searching that eventually led me to Barbie Collector dot com. On active label dolls for sale they list the skin tone along with the facial sculpt name. I never even noticed that!

I don't find her overly masculine at all. I think she has some strong features and I like how pronounced her nose is.

Thanks so much for all that info!
