Kohl's is Cray Cray & Rock 'N' Roll Plaid Fashionista

I went to Kohl's over the weekend because they were having a $29.99 sale on select Skechers walking shoes. I know they also have a little toy department so I mosey over to check it out and the prices were RIDICULOUS! Yes, I realize it's a department store, not a discount store, but still!

Clothing packs are $8 - $10 elsewhere

Sisters $20 and Shoe Sets $16 elsewhere

Kids/Basic Barbies $5-$7 elsewhere

Fashionistas $8 elsewhere

And although everything was 20% off, even with that discount, it's more than the full price you would pay any place else.

And speaking of Walmart, lol, I haven't seen this girl in stores yet, but she's currently at Walmart Online [for $7.94] for anyone interested. I think she's gorgeous!

  1. I hardly ever buy anything at Kohl's anymore. Their prices always seem a bit high to me. I do love that Rock n' Roll doll - she is really pretty. I got her, but I cannot remember if I bought her from a store or ordered her online! I think I got her from Mattel when they had free shipping.

    1. Phyllis, I'm glad she's not just pretty in the promo pics. I'm still waiting to find LA Girl in the stores... guess I'll keep an eye out for this one too.

  2. Cray-Cray is an understatement. I wonder if they marked prices up before the discount in an attempt to make customers think they were getting a deal. Informed people know Kohl's. You can't pull the wool over our eyes.

    1. Debbie, I'll admit I'm not a department store shopper. If it's not at Walmart or Target then I don't think about it. Maybe those are normal department store prices. If it is then I'm glad I don't shop those places.

  3. Thanks for the peek at the toy section, it's small but looks well sticked.
You guys are so lucky to think these prices are high. Add about 30% to make up for the exchange rate ( even when our dollar is on par with yours) and you'll see our regular Canadian prices.
This is why it's better to shop online even with shipping costs.

    1. Holy inflated prices, Maricha! If I had to pay prices like that I wouldn't even have a doll collection. Everything I saw I'd be like, "Nope!"

  4. I assume Kohl's official motto can be amended as "Expect (to pay) more!"

  5. Witaj Muff!

  6. Those are their regular prices. I have only purchased a car (Ken's) from there. They had it on sale during Black Friday. Otherwise, I only check out what they have to see if they have any exclusives. Cray cray is the perfect word for the prices of their dolls. I am surprised that they even sell.

    1. Georgia Girl, some of the things are from older lines, so maybe they aren't selling that great.

  7. Even in Spain (where we have higher prices than in the USA) those fashion packs were cheaper! In Spain we have a chain store that has does the same thing with prices, they're still retailing the first wave Monster Exchange dolls for 30 € (that's about 35 dollars), and I don't know how is it possible that they sell. I have the first one you posted and I want to get my hands on the third one.

    Cheers!

    1. Monster, I guess if people only shop at fancy places, then they don't mind paying fancy prices. Maybe if I had money to burn I'd feel the same way. Doubt it though, lol.

    2. If I had money to burnt I wouldn't spend it paying more for something that you can find much cheaper in any toy store. I'd rather spend it in more exclusive dolls. And shelves.

    3. Oh gosh, don't make remember how I burnt my money to get an overpriced second release Decentdants Jay doll, HA HA HA!! (he was an "must have" exception). We have higher prices here in Perú, I have to wait until stores want to get rid of their stocks to get MH/EAH/Barbie dolls at a decent price. The Barbie Spy Squad Cat Burglar costs 12.99 at Mattel's online store, I got her in a store here in Lima on sale for 40 soles, like, uhhh, a little less than 12 dollars. The original price was 60 soles (17.99 dollars!!)
I've read somewhere that prices are insane in South Korea an some places in Eastern Europe (even more insane that prices in Spain!).

    4. Yelinna, I'm just way WAY too cheap to have a "must have." I'm more a "would like to have, but willing to wait until the price is very very low."

  8. Hiya Muff, I check out Kohls doll section like a museum - to look but dont buy. Heheh! Even discount stores like Biglots prices seem more like dept stores. I watch for markdowns. Sometime the same store online price is cheaper than their in store price because not all stores actually own the online store. Great pics!

    1. DeMari, Biglots prices have been crazy lately too! I only ever go there when they are having a 20% off day, but even then the toys are too much. They used to have such reasonable toy prices too.

  9. Oh, qué gran cantidad de muñecas hay, sin duda, nunca tendremos todas, cada día parece que saliera algo diferente, y yo con poco dinero. Gracias por compartirnos.

  10. Yes, Kohl's is crazy. I pity those uninformed people who actually pay those prices.

  11. Wow, a shop in the US that actually has prices slightly higher than what we pay in Australia - amazing.
As for the Petite Barbie, she is already available in shops in Australia. I bought her for $12 which is the cheapest price for the new Fashionistas here. My daughter has named her Daenerys because she thinks she looks like her and is short, again like Daenerys in Game of Thrones.

    1. Carrickters, I would never have anything if I had to pay those prices all the time. It would be cool if your daughter customized her doll to actually be dressed as Daenerys.

  12. Yeah, Kohls is soo expense! Most real department stores no longer carry toys. I guess that is why they charge what they charge. Most department stores only have toys as a catalog or online item. I have only purchased at Kohls things I couldn't find anywhere else (Fashionista Ryan when he first came out, that was the last time I purchased)!

BTW, I saw LA Girl at my local Walmart. I thought about you. I can pick her up for you if you want. Also, is Rock 'N' Roll Plaid hair light blonde or white?

    1. Ms. Leo, I'm just now seeing this comment you made last week! Thanks so much for the offer of picking up a LA Girl, but that's okay. After all this long time of waiting, I'm kinda over her, lol. Rock 'N' Rolls hair looks white to me.

  13. No wonder their shelves are so full. Anyone familiar with Barbie would know to leave those right in the store. It would be different if they had some Kohl's exclusives. Then higher prices would be understandable.

    1. Vanessa, they don't need ANY exclusives. I can imagine the cost would be even further through the roof.
