Happy Family Grandma's Kitchen

I found this set at the thrift store almost 2 years ago and never got around to opening it, along with several others just sitting around gathering dust. I want to use the sets as photo backdrops for stuff I sell and since this one isn't pink, I figured it would be the easiest to fix up.

  1. I was on YouTube watching Sam and Mickey's channel and saw this video. You got a great deal, even without all of the items. You can just fill it up. Congratulations!

    1. Too true, Janainah. It's not like I don't have a mountain of accessories I can fill it with. I'm just greedy and wanted the originals from the HFGK too.

  2. I like the styling of the interior. (And yeah, yay for no pink for once!) I really like the island, especially. It gives the impression of the kitchen being part of a larger room to me, instead of just a shallow foldaway.

I'm a bit curious as to how sturdy that table is, though. It sure didn't seem all that stable when you were setting it up. I could almost imagine setting something on the end close to the wall and that end starting to sliiiide down, lol!

Not a bad buy at all for $10, I think. You're one ebay "Barbie kitchen accessories/food" lot away from a really nice set up! (I wonder if you could find a replacement door for the oven? Maybe just make one out of chip board?)

    1. Presto, that table is not sturdy at all. You look at it funny and it will fall down. Maybe there was some sort of latching system to keep it in place before, but if there was, it's gone now.

There actually is a pink version of this set, but I'm not sure it's called Grandma's and it also has a much shorter table.

I was going to leave the oven space blank. Just put some books or pots in there.

    2. Ah, I was afraid of that. What will you cover the spot on the wall up with after you remove the table? Maybe a shallow side board made out of cardboard or a piece of ready-made doll furniture?

Oh, that would be a handy spot for storing a recipe box and some cook books, come to think of it.

    3. Presto, if I cant remove that table piece that's attached to the wall, I will definitely cover it with cardboard, either as shelving or a side board. If I can get it off, then there's no limit to what might be happening over there.

  3. Oh, I like it. It will make a great backdrop and the color is more natural than pink everything. It could also look like a café with the right accessories added to it.

    1. Ooh, Maricha! Double duty as a café sounds like a good idea.

  4. I feel like this kitchen is too low for a Barbie, like, the ceiling would be too low for her if there was one, but the rest are the right scale.

The stickers make it look like the grandchildren put them all over, it's sweet when I think about it, specially since this is a grandma kitchen.

Maybe you could use a blowdryer to heat up the door and straighten it, idk.

    1. Oly, Grandma is about 1/2 inch shorter than a regular Barbie, so it's not that low if Grandma is the one doing the cooking. I'll just extend the "roof" when I use it.

The warped door isn't that bad and if it was open, then more than likely I'll have a doll standing in front of it.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Oh is that so?? I didn't know that, thank you. Isn't the grandma related to Midge and Midge is regular sized? In the box photo Midge and Alan are sitting by that purple table.

    3. Oly, Midge is regular size and that's probably also why she is sitting down, while Grandma and pa are standing up, since they are shorter. I'm in the middle of removing the stickers right now or I'd show you a height comparison with a grandma in it. I'll remember to do that next video.

  5. Great deal. That was Danielle's kitchen for a long time. I haven't given it to anyone else, yet. By the way, my table is very stable. See if it will lock in place at the wall...meaning pull it up at the wall area and see if it will click. Danielle used the table when she first got the kitchen, and it never fell down.

That's a good idea to use your props to show off your shop items. I'm heading to the shop right now.

    1. Vanessa, I've just been scrolling through your old posts to find Danielle's kitchen. I will totally be stealing your idea of extending the walls! I see the prongs on my table that are supposed to keep it supported in place, but they don't catch in the groove intended and it will just slide on down.

  7. That's a nice find - I love that the shelves and windows are more than just stickers on it. And it's always brilliant to find a set like this that isn't pink (I think that's the same yellow that was in my kitchen a few houses back actually).

Randomly, before you put up the text that the swing-up piece on the back of the house was a table I had totally assumed that it was a dog door!

    1. jSarie, you're right that most of the times the sets are pics of cabinets, not real ones so this find was worth the cost.

That would have to be one huge dog to need a doggie door that big! More like they had a baby calf as a pet.

  8. Moim zdaniem ten domek jest naprawdę fajny! Ma doskonałe kolory, świetne mebelki, okna, drzwi. Jest super! Film mi się bardzo podobał.
    Pozdrawiam Cię serdecznie!

  9. I have this kitchen as well. I had purchased it for my daughter when she was 3 or 4. She played with it a lot and a lot of the small pieces got lost. Now it is mine and used in one of my houses that I am working on. I don't use the table because of the way I have the kitchen set up and I never really liked that table anyway.

    1. Phyllis, that table would be fine if it was set up in a craft room dio or even a sewing room dio. For my purposes it's too big and in the way. It's gotta go.

  10. Very nice find and great price! They are high on eBay. I know that you are going to hook it up so nice, we won't recognize it. Looking forward to seeing your transformation.

    1. Thanks, Georgia Girl! I saw the ones on eBay, especially the unboxed ones, and those prices are astronomical! $350! No way.

  11. I love your doll telling the kids to get off of her lawn! And I have some of the same fabric that her dress is made of. It's interesting to see it somewhere else.

    1. Barb, that fabric comes in people size? The print must look very tiny.

I'm the "Get off my lawn" type, so it seemed natural the doll would be the same way.

  12. I love this kitchen, specially the fact that it's not pink. As you say on the video, I love the door and windows cutouts too. It needs a little bit of cleaning and maybe some paint on the outdoor fence, but I think it's in overall good condition. Also, if you need extra space you could add a piece of cardboard as an extra wall.

    1. Monster, if I was going to use it as a diorama set, I'd probably add extra walls and stuff. I mostly just need it as back drop so we'll see if it gets any extra goodies.

    1. Gracias, Lindaiette. Me encontré con mis abuelos en la tienda de segunda mano hace mucho tiempo, por lo que fue ordenado a darse cuenta de que tengo su cocina también.

  14. Great find and price! My luckiest eBay purchase was when I found one of these kitchen playsets complete and NRFB for like $40. I was perusing your shop earlier today and saw the kitchen window in the background of some of your pictures. It looked great!

    1. Jewell, finding these sets at the thrift store is always a thrill since they are taped up and you never know if there are goodies inside or not. Yep, I used it as a background already. Since I knew I was going to mess with it, thought I'd get one photo out of it in case I screwed the pooch.
